Buy the Yak and Hurricane!

Today's Dev Diary has outlines some fantastic changes coming for the game.

It is clear that there is a passion from the development team for improving the game for everyone, not just making new content to sell. However, it is only selling content that allows the team to make such improvements. So, I want to urge everyone to treat your selves to the Yak 9 and Hurricane!

I know some of you are unlikely to fly these planes much if you buy them.

To these people I say: buy them anyway! You are not just buying the plane, you are indirectly buying future improvements to the game.

I know others are tempted to wait until the planes are on sale in a year or so.

To these people I say: don't wait! Life is too short to deny your self such small pleasures now and if you measure the value of a plane in the amount of time you spend flying it, then the sooner you buy it, the better value for money you are getting.

I'm not sure do i want the Yak-9 or not.

For me it does not deliver anything new since i own Yak-1b.

Change my mind.

I would like to have Me 410 now.

Sure, maybe the Yak and Hurricane will be useless for you. I don't think they will, but who knows.

For certain the Yak1b is a better plane than the Yak9.

The P-51 is also a better plane than the Yak1b, but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea to buy the Yak1b.

What is almost certain is that there will be some changes you like in the next few patches to the game and the team can only continue to make such patches if people buy collector planes. Even if you never fly the Yak9, you will still get something positive out of buying it.

You are absolutely right. If anyone wants to see our small and fragile hobby continue to survive and better yet, grow... We owe these devs our support so long as they support us.

I think they have done a tremendous job over the past while with upgrading the sim for us and deserve our financial support. I know I recently finished buying up all the collector aircraft that I had no interest in, simply for this reason. (I'm talking about you macchi and hs-129)

Hurricane is easy sail as you get 4-5 airplanes in one, Yak-9T with 37mm also i would guess, Yak-9 will have to show off some great in performance to prove its need compared to Yak-1B.

I would object to both (!) claims here ?

Why anyone wouldn't want to fly the Hurricane is beyond me?

I'll buy the Hurricane when it's due date is less blurry. (I already gifted one as a show of support.) I'll probably buy the Yak-9 just to help out, and it does look nice, but It's highly unlikely I'll buy both Yak-9 models. If the only difference is the nose cannon, that's not a big selling point for me.

Fair points.

I do own everything in ww2 section expect some campaigns.

My personal problem with the VVS is that there are no plane for me.

I fly heavy fighters only and rarely i do use single engine fighters like Macchi.

Bodenplatte feels bit incomplete because there are not enough planes for it yet. ( Its like when Stalingrad was only product )

Normandy will change that.

I have hoped heavy fighter in the soviet side like Pe-3.

I cant wait to get Normandy and fly Me 410, Ju 88 C-6a, Mosquito F.B. Mk.V

Other problematic thing is that i buy products from Steam only and i cant get Steam keys anymore when pre-order so i just need to wait longer.

When it was possible i bought them years before release. This is something to do with the company policies i have talked about this thing several times with Jason.

Not going to go to this talks again so i just need to wait and look early access content videos from Youtube when you guys having fun ?

I'll say this... don't let peer pressure force you into something you can't afford or you are not interested in.

There are people here on the bread line, people here without a lot of disposable income.

If you want to wait for a sale, then wait for a sale... don't feel pressured into buying before you can afford it.

I bought it because of the 40mm but otherwise, it's one of the fugliest birds of the war so I was prepared to take a pass . . . . but 40mm

I always buy everything 1CGS releases to fully support the Devs. Even Tank Crew which I will likely never use and Flying Circus which I will use very occasionally maybe.

That's one of the reasons I'm not buying BON anytime soon, with the exchange it's $115Cdn. I might buy it on sale one day.

Same here.  However I can understand why it may a stretch $ wise for some.

Yes, I definitely see the case - with things like exchange rates - for people with more limited incomes to hold-off on buying sometimes. Given that the Yak is set up as two purchases it is close to $45 Canadian to get both.

I'd instantly pre-order a Pe-3, Fw-189, a bunch of unusual planes... but I'm less keen on fighters generally... and when I am it is usually for their ground attack roles (e.g. Hurribomber and Typhoon). I don't tend to fly the Yaks (even the Yak-7... and the 'cut down' rear fuselauge version of the Yak-7 might be my favourite Yak).

So, there is the question: Should we provide feedback regarding what we want by delaying some purchases until they go on sale? Or should we just donate what we can (for those with the cash to spare) in order to enable development? Thinking about this actually kind-of makes me wish they had a 'donations'/'tip jar' every time a patch came out - so we could directly contribute to game engine development without having to buy a plane!

Anyway, if you can sell me on the Yak-9... please, do try.

It has good handling and a nice turn rate? It is a good aircraft for 1942 scenarios on the Battle of Normandy map (where it was used as an intruder and fighter bomber) and on the Russian Front (where even the IID was exported as a lend-lease aircraft)? If you like flying in 1941-1942 it is a must.

I'm actually not sure why they didn't split the Hurricane into two purchases (e.g. IID as separate)?

Fully agree, especially in today's hard times with so many people hurting financially right now.

$115Cdn for BON, that's grocery money.

Collector planes for $15 or $20 is another matter.

You can live without food for atleast 40 days, can you live without Normandy for that long, CAN YOU ? ?

With an initial surge in video game sales, going to very likely see a decline. Less disposable income and higher priorities likely going to mean less sales - just remains to be seen for how long and how big of a hit it will be. I wouldn't take anything for granted at this point.

Wishing everyone good health (both mental and physical) and happy gaming.

I have a general policy against pre-ordering anything. The Il-2 devs are one of the only exceptions I make. I pre-ordered the Hurricane just because it's one of my favourite fighters and I love to just fly it. I want to order the Yak-9T but I have to take a long hard look at all my discretionary purchases right now, and realistically I don't see myself flying it an awful lot. I feel I can more easily justify saving up scraps to buy BoN for when the P-47 razorback comes out - that way I get some immediate gratification and purchase something I'm going to get a lot of use out of anyway.

It really depends on the person, their particular situation (e.g. are they in a high rent city), how many dependents (i.e. kids) they have... some people are literally having to forgo meals because they can't afford peanut butter or crackers... It also varies from week to week ...I've met people who couldn't make a $20 deposit (even though they would've gotten the money back in a few days). I'm sure there are some people who picked up this sim and who now can't afford internet (what was it - 15% of Canadians in urban centers couldn't afford internet)?

I'm preeeety sure that i've bought everything the devs have made available thus far, but I don't know if I'm missing something. Is there any way to check this?

Well as it's likely the BoN is probably a year away, most people could squirrel away the purchase price between now and it's release. The team still gets paid, the purchaser will still (before release) get it for the early access price. All that will be lost to some players is missing out on the planes as they get released.

I've bought the Hurricane but I'm holding off on the Yaks for now.

Why do you buy on steam only? Literally no pros only cons, you get it later and the devs get less money. You don’t need steam keys since the account unification, that’s why there aren’t any. Buy on the website and play over steam ;)

I mean, if you just go into your account on the website you should be able to see everything you own already. Then its just process of elimination. You also won't be able to purchase somethign you already own except as a gift.

I can.

Maybe I'm stepping on land mines here, but until the SP content creation is brought up a level, I'm not buying any more modules. I'm years and several hundred dollars into this sim and the QMB remains weak tea and I still have to turn the game off and open a separate program just to put one plane where I want it on the map. And I even have to load the buildings onto the map myself in that separate program. To have to do that in 2020 is, to me, absolutely ridiculous. It's the horse and buggy equivalent of SP content creation. And I'm not dropping another $100 under those conditions.

And it's a shame because aside from that the sim is absolutely outstanding.

There seems to be no easy way of doing this. im looking at my purchases and how can I tell which planes come in premium editions or not? i notice i hadn't bought the spitfire campaign but what else?

It's pretty easy. Each theater has the planes listed for the standard editions and the collector planes in the Premium editions as below for BoBP.

The yak is just not for me. It is simply too embarrassing for me to be shot down in.
Hurricane however is much more like it

But I bought them all

I agree the developers shows dedication.  They try to improve the game. Sometimes they improve things I was not aware needed improvement. They also try to fix things they can’t like spotting. They gave us a alternative. I like neither, but they really really put in a effort. Salute to them, they sometimes or rather quite often upgrade without selling us stuff. That make them loveable

I bought in on the Hurricane. For me it’s just one of those iconic must-haves in my stable.

For the first time I gifted someone here on the forums the premium Kuban but have never heard a peep for several weeks now regarding it. Weird. Oh well.

Well i used to buy products from page and ask Steam keys later.

That's how devs got their money.

I got Bodenplatte keys as promised since paid it very early like few days when it got to page.

But its not possible anymore so.. i have to wait but nevertheless devs will get my money but with few cuts from Steam.

I'm 100% sure i will buy Normandy when it come to Steam.

I'm minority here it seems but Steam is my home ?

Yeah buddy - I bought all the stuff too. I didn't see much need for the Yak-9T but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised with that big boomstick.

The Hurricane is not my cup of tea really (more a Tempest gotta go fast and hit them hard kind of guy) but for sheer historical value it was a "must have".
