Does the chase cam not work on certain missions?

I notice there's an issue with the chase cam on certain missions. I'm playing a pilot campaign with the TB-3 Bomber. I start my take off using the chase cam (default F8) or sometimes the F2 cam. For whatever reason, once I takeoff from the airstrip the game jumps me back to cockpit view. I've tested this out on other aircraft campaigns and this doesn't seem to be a problem (For example, the chase cam works fine with the A-20C and the B-25). I tried remapping these cams to a different key binding and that doesn't fix the problem. Does anyone have any familiarity with this issue and is there a possible fix?
