Cold Start / Taxi

Is there a way to get takeoff clearance without having to turn on Autopilot, when starting a mission from parked and engine off?

I've always found that once the whole flight have their engines running, the lead plane (ai or player) will request taxi clearance

Yep once all of the flight is in place takeoff clearance comes.

I have never hit the autopilot for this.

Used to be you had to get parked in just right position, but now that area seems to be larger and easier to hit.

I am a dozen missions into my cold start Campaign in the Spit Mk IX and have had no issue with this.

Sounds good.  I was worried moving before getting the taxi and takeoff clearance wouldn’t trigger the waypoints

I don't think that should be. concern.  The WPs are triggered by an "On Takeoff" event that is not tied to the cold start process.
