[DBS]Browning Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 (edited) This happened today on the Finnish virtual server. It was a nightmare to fly! Excellent aerodynamic modelling in my opinion. It was counted as a successful landing by the server. I got full points and saved the plane. Edited May 12, 2020 by [DBS]Browning 10 2 11
WWSandMan Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Just happened to see this... Well done! That's my normal landing in a Spit on a clear day with no wind, no damage, and light on fuel/ammo. (LOL)
RAAF492SQNOz_Steve Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 (edited) Not as much damage as in the screen shots but still substantial and the control surface for that wing is also inoperable (shown in another photo) http://263i3m2dw9nnf6zqv39ktpr1-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/06/Wade-scratch960_640-1.jpg The story on the pilot shown inspecting the damage, Wildcat Wade is well worth a read. ZachariasX Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 You were lucky that the aileron jammed in the „up“ position. Well done!
69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 I don't know how easy it is to recreate but, the same type of break can be flown on a Yak.1.69. I wonder how many other plane models are still manageable with half a wing. Great piloting!
19//Moach Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 I had done this same stunt once before on CloD - Didn't think it'd be possible in GB as well, but whadda you know! Seems the Spitty has a sweet spot where the propeller forces kinda balance out the wings new "arrangement". Then if you carefully work the plane into that state, it's actually possible to nurse it back to at least crash somewhere less inconvenient... I wouldn't think it'd work if you had lost the wing on the other side - At least when I did it, I knew it only worked because I lost the right wing, same as here. Someone flying with me then took a screenshot, and I made it into my avatar on the ATAG forums: Anyways, that's some fancy flying there, mate! 1

Usually model planes are hugely overpowered so they are more equivalent to a rocket than a plane that can only rely on lift to stay in the air. Aerospace engineer talking here.

Reggie_Mental Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 I read an account from a BofB pilot who nursed a badly shot up Hurricane back to base at Rochford. He thought he'd done a bloody good job bringing it home for a 3 pointer on the runway. Later that evening in the mess the Squadron Engineering Officer shot him down again by telling him he was a bloody fool for not bailing out because he could have killed himself trying to land it, but now the erks will have to put in an all-nighter to repair it for readiness tomorrow morning. If he'd bailed out, the Squadron would have got a new machine the next day. The RAF had plenty of aeroplanes, but pilots they could not replace so quickly.
Eross_McCloud Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 The pilot was told that he had tea waiting for him back on base. :P
