thrila Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Hi, I have a few questions concerning multiplayer. 1. What do the beeps signify that I'm hearing over the radio and how do i disable them if they're not of any significance. 2. I've not been able to come across any explanation of various icons on the map. Is there one avilable online somewhere? 3. Is there a way to discover where fighting is taking place on a map? Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help. 1. its sound of chat messages, you can turn it of in settings and then in sound you turn of interface option 2. icons on map are usealy areas where mission maker placed objective targets to defend or attack, or your and enemy spawn bases, i dont think there is icon explanation anywhere exept maybe in IL-2 mission makere manuals. 3. For new players i would say best way to fined action is to go towards your side (by default Blue icons is your side objectives) objectives and defend them, at 2-4km alts, your flak will help you see enemys. If you wont more risk its also good to try to attack enemy fighters defending their own targets, but expect many more enemy airplanes there. On some servers you get info messages teling you where enemy airplanes are spoted, but sometimes they are with delay of few minutes. Dont go strait towards enemy bases at low alt, thats usealy quick way to fined enemys but youll usealy get downed or if you come 10km from bases enemy gets info about you. 1
vonduck Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Excellent questions and i too wondered about this. I also (as a noob to this game) wondered about the map... as there are no plane icons i am assuming you must navigate via VFR etc... compass headings etc... Im looking for a noob guide so youtube i guess here i come!

Other MP servers (such as Combat Box) have no plane icon, so you must use your map or a radio direction finder to navigate. There are some navigation resources in the last third of topic "Flying Guides and Utilities" in the IL-2 Resources post. 1
thrila Posted May 11, 2020 Author Posted May 11, 2020 Thanks for the explanations, CountZero. I'm using VR and have the HUD turned off so I'm unable to see any chat messages. That'll be why I never made the chat connection with the beeps. I've been flying towards friendly/enemy targets along the front, but even with a server with 70-80 people it has been a challenge at times to find opponents. I was hoped there was a mechanism that I wasn't aware of to assist me in finding where the action is.

Only thing that would greatly enhanced your ability to fined enemys is joining ts3 or discord channal of server you play on, you dont even have to comunicate with other people there if you dont wont to but things you hear will give you hints where action is.
Guest deleted@210880 Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 For point 3, just fly ground attack, then you become the action, and if you encounter no enemy then it is an absolute pleasure. Similarly, escort a ground attacker, then you both become the action and if you encounter no enemy it is still a job well done by yourself.
thrila Posted May 15, 2020 Author Posted May 15, 2020 I believe part of the problem for finding any action is that I'm using oculus rift. I downloaded tacview and it is pretty clear that even dogfights with a large number of combatants I simply cannot reliably spot aircraft beyond 1-2 miles and identification is also a problem. 1
SYN_Mike77 Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 I bought the first consumer version of Oculus Right, Tried it for 2 weeks and sent it back for this very reason. And that is despite all of the great help I got optimizing the gear from this community. With their help it went from, 'you got to be kidding me' to 'I got to think about this.' I loved the feeling of emersion and if I were just flying around I would have probably kept it. Also, I think that if Flying Circus had been out then I might have kept it. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future I give it another go.

Berloga is great as you can just spam padlock and automaticly see everything you dont even see, i left other MP stuff to younger guys and enjoy WT tanks last few months even more with short test DCS airplanes i didnt have when they in free for all. MP here with this bad visablitiy is pointles even for non VR user like me.

For me it's more frustration of not finding anyone to fight for 25 mins and then reviewing a film to see there were up to a dozen aircraft about 3-4 miles away. I've downloaded 3Dmigo and been trying to setup 5x zoom (that is a challenge in it's own right at the moment.)
