Hello, my fellow aviators!

I have used the past weeks of the shut down to entertain myself with migrating some of my old RoF skins to FC. It had initially begun as an experiment, and when it worked out fine for one skin I just had to give it a try on the complete set. The two packages contain historical Camel skins for three RFC squadrons at the time of their service on the Italian front, namely 28 Sqn, 45 Sqn and 66 Sqn.

Why two sets? Well, I simply did not want to decide for what side of the "PC10 was green – PC10 was brown" discussion I should opt in and by this ruling out the remaining fraction; so I made an olive drab as well as a brown version of each scout in the set. I want to apologize right away for any errors or deviations from the originals – I have tried my best to match the skins as close as possible to the historical sources. With one exception: B5193, Lieut. D.C. Wright. I was not able to find a source which would tell what particular flight he was appointed to, or alternatively what markings the scout in which he died on feb 20 1918 near Conegliano bore; this is the only skin where I have augmented and attached a detail without having historical proof. Yet I really wanted to include Lieut. Wright by all means, for he can be seen on a photograph of the crash site and I wanted him to be remembered as a young man up in the sky, rather than a nameless, shattered body amidst the debris of his Camel.

My main sources – besides web finds and cross-references in my books about the k.u.k Luftfahrtruppen – for these skins are:

  • Norman Franks, Sopwith Camels over Italy (Pen & Sword Aviation)
  • Norman Franks, Sopwith Camel Aces of World War 1 (Osprey Aircraft of the Aces 52)
  • L.A. Rogers, Sopwith Camel Squadrons (Windsock Datafiles Specials)
  • J.M. Bruce, Sopwith 2F1 Camel (Windsock Datafiles 6)

Unfortunately the devs of FC have no intentions to add the Albatros DIII to the game, not to speak of an Italian map, so that these Camels might meet their Austro-Hungarian opponents (for whom I had made a number of skins over at RoF) once again. But the Kuban map and some German DVs will be as close as FC will get to the Italian theatre and will have to make do for the history-nerds amongst us.

Having this said, I wish you all a great time and see you in the sky,
