Beebop Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 (edited) First, I bought the game from here. It is not a Steam version. It all started when after changing a graphics setting I clicked 'Apply' and the game crashed to desktop. On the desktop was a dialog box that said I was missing an MSVCP110.dll, I restarted the game and found that the changes I had just made had taken effect. However I wanted that missing .dll message to stop. So I went to the forums and searched for MSVCP110.dll and found several threads. All said that re-installing the game had solved the problem. I had done this back in 2016 and remarkably it not only worked but all my setting remained in place. But this time, before re-installing I backed up my "Input" folder and my "Missions"/"Dogfight" folders thinking I was invoking Murphy's Law, since I did it I would find it was unnecessary. I went to my Profile page and IL-2 Sturmovik and clicked "Download" and got the Launcher.exe. I installed it and started it up and the files began downloading. After a long time they were done and I began the installation process. At one point it asked me to install DirectX11 and I agreed, even though I already have DirectX12 installed, thinking it was a part of making Il-2 work. After all that I finally started the game and the screenshots below show what happened. I had to use Task Manager to close the process. I thought maybe it was because I installed DirectX11 over 12 so I totally uninstalled the game in it's entirety and re-downloaded the whole shebang. This time I didn't install directX11 and the result was the same except now I couldn't use Task manager to stop the process. I had to reboot the computer. I put in a Support Ticket but realizing it was the weekend I didn't expect a response until at least Monday. I also had noticed that it said that there was a DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. Again I searched the forums. I found a response from a dev suggesting I run the 'vc_redist.x64' in the games "redist" folder. I tried but it said it could not install because a newer version was installed (DirectX12 presumably). It was also suggested I upgrade my video drivers but my RX580 is up to date already. Currently the Mission Editor opens up and displays the scenery in Ortho View (3D view) and the plane viewer works fine. It's just the game itself that is not starting up. Mind you, until I re-installed the game everything worked fine except for that annoying missing .dll message. My video card drivers are up to date and so is DirectX. In addition I tried other games I use for diversion like Wreckfest and it runs just fine. As does 1946, no issues whatsoever. Plus my video rendering apps like VLC and Windows Media Player. Youtube videos show just fine as well. Again, it's just the game. I should have left well enough alone. Now my concern is that the Support team may not respond or respond very soon or only respond with an automated response. I have spent a lot of money on this game. I have everything but Tank Crew and have even pre-ordered some upcoming planes. I have invested time into beginning to understand how to use the Mission Editor and can do some basic skinning. I can't really go back to 1946 although I have played it since the demo came out in 2001. It's a great game but after seeing Great Battles the age of the 1946 engine shows a lot. I will be greatly disappointed if I cannot fix this. I'm hoping that some out there has a suggestion. Computer Specs; OS: Windows 10 Home CPU: AMD Ryzen 7, 1700. 8 Cores and 16 threads. 3.19GHz adaptive up to 3.7 GHz. GPU: Sapphire RX 580 w/8Gb DDR 5. Drivers up to date. Firmware up to date. DirectX12 installed. Mobo: AMD AB350 Gaming K4. Memory: 16Gb DDR 3. Power Supply: Coolermaster G750M This is what it looks like when I try and start the game. the first is right after startup. It goes no further. The second is what it would do when I pressed 'Escape'. Now that doesn't even show and I have to reboot to clear the screen.; Edited May 10, 2020 by Beebop
Beebop Posted May 9, 2020 Author Posted May 9, 2020 ADDENDUM: I did another complete uninstall, cleaned out the registry of all unneeded, useless, old, unused entries, did a disk defrag and optimized my 'C' drive where I installed it using Windows 10 provided tool. Reinstalled the game and although now the initial black/logo start screen loads, when I get in the hanger the picture is corrupted. I tried taking a screenshot but I had to do a hard reboot as I still can't open Task Manager and the reboot apparently wiped out the clipboard. This now makes a total of one re=install over the game (something I did back in 2016 without any problem, and three complete uninstalls and reload from my Profile page. I hate to say it but if I can't get this fixed by mid-week next week I will most likely be discouraged enough to call it quits. Shame too, this is such a wonderful game.
DD_FT- Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 Did you try and run it with a clean/default setup? So, it uses all default graphics settings? (I assume you did, but can't tell for sure from your posts...)
Beebop Posted May 9, 2020 Author Posted May 9, 2020 (edited) Yeah. i couldn't set anything up. It never got that far. I had the Launcher window in front of me. I clicked the red 'Play' button, I got the opening Black w/IL-2 logo, then when it goes to the hanger, picture is corrupted, can't see any selections (Quick Mission, Settings, Multiplayer etc. I can't even see the Green "Enter" box. I tried clicking around the screen. Again nothing. at this point screen is frozen and the ONLY way to exit is via pressing the Reboot button on the PC case. I can't even open Task Manager to kill the game. Edited May 9, 2020 by Beebop

Are you overclocking it at all? Sometimes OC'ing seems to cause this issue.
Beebop Posted May 9, 2020 Author Posted May 9, 2020 No. I don't overclock anything. This only started when I decided the re-install the game. Up to that point everything was fine. No issues of any kind. And no issues with any other game, app, device. Just Il-2 Sturmovik.
Beebop Posted May 10, 2020 Author Posted May 10, 2020 ADDENDUM 2: I downloaded and installed the "mscvp110.dll" for both 32bit and 64bit and placed them in their respective Windows\System folders, "System 32" for the 32 bit dll and "SysWOW64" for the 64 bit version. Allowed them to replace. No joy. Everything BUT Il-2 works. Previously I had tried re-installing vc_redist.x64 that is in the 'redist' folder as per one of the devs posts It is version 14.10.25017 but I already have a newer version installed, v. 14.14.26429 so it won't install the version in the game file.. I continue to search for answers. I pray that I find one.
Beebop Posted May 10, 2020 Author Posted May 10, 2020 (edited) I FINALLY FIXED MY GAME!!!!!!! I FINALLY FIXED MY GAME!!!!!!! Sorry for shouting butI AM SOOOO G**D***F****** HAPPY!!!! It's 5 AM in the morning and after staying up all night, just like last night and the night before, I finally fixed my game. The solution was simple but finding it wasn't. Ever since this happened I have been literally constantly working on finding and solving the problem. I couldn't sleep so I was on the computer searching the forums, downloading the game over and over, only to have the game keep crashing at startup. After reading tons of posts I had reinstalled M$ CC++, vc_redistx64, replaced msvcp110.dlls for both 32bit and 64 bit, read a bunch more, visited every website that dealt with Great Battles looking for the solution. Finally this morning about 3 AM I ran across the post that flipped the switch. Several people had had a similar problem with their nVidea cards. They talked about various built-in programs to the nVidea interface that had caused problems. Even the devs said there were problems with nVidea cards and offered solutions. But few use AMD cards. Finally I found a post where a Radeon user, who uses the same card I do, the RX580, mentioned he was having general graphic glitches with the game. Not the same problem I had of no start though. He said he went in and disabled the feature that has the card "override application settings". A switch flipped in my head! Now several folks had asked if my video drivers and firmware were up to date and they were. That wasn't the problem and I was sure of it. So I go inside the Global Game Settings and find that several of the card features I had turned on with the other install. I disabled every one of them putting the card on "Standard/Generic" settings. I tried restarting the game and................IT WORKED! Game started right up like nothing had happened. Apparently once the game is running you can modify your card settings without issue but when you first download the game it doesn't recognize all that. And frankly I'm not going to find out. I've always thought that to my eyes AMD GPU's rendered games with vibrant but not garish color. NVidea cards always seemed a bit garish out of the box but could be altered to suit. But AMD cards really didn't need that in my opinion. I now know and understand enough about the game that I can makes several visual changes in the games config files to suit my visual taste. All is good there. When I first got the game running it was all stock and although I had chosen the joystick as my game device, in Quick Mission it didn't do anything. I didn't care at that point as I was in the skies again. So I first loaded in the missions I had saved and restarted the game. I was just curious if I could add something and not have it screw things up even though I knew it shouldn't. It started normally.Good. Next I took out the "input" folder, renamed it as saved it on the desktop. Then I put in the input folder I had saved from the last working game and restarted. It worked! All my previous HOTAS and Custom Keyboard binds were there and worked.Double Plus Good! Next I put in my MODS folder and re-enabled the mods I like to use. I restarted the game and it said that mods were installed. I agreed and lo and behold, there was my Better Clouds, Historical German Markings, smaller sun size, longer smoke trails, new effects etc.Double Plus-Plus Good! W O O H O O !!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm back in business. And now maybe I can get some much needed sleep. Thanks to everyone who posted. I appreciate the input. The fact that it either didn't work of was not applicable is fine. It just help me rule out some things and narrowed my searches. In that sense it was invaluable help. And I hope this thread will be of hope to someone who is having similar issues. The real key is just keep trying. No matter how hopeless it seems there is some kind of solution. And once you find it you will, for a while at least, feel like the King Of The World. It will be a well deserved title. Edited May 11, 2020 by Beebop 2
