Brand New to Great Battles How can I install skins?

Had IL2 1946 for a long time but I'm new to Great Battles. Just installed Bodenplatte, beautiful graphics but I'd like to install some of the beautiful skins but I don't know how in Great Battles. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Any help appreciated.

Hi and welcome to brave new world of IL2 Great Battles

 

if you want to spice up your game with those beautiful custom skins, you will find all correspondent airplane folder where you can put your favorite skins.

You find it here:

 

C:\.......\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\skins

 

The path I indicated here is incomplete because I don't know, if you have a standalone installation or if you have a steam installation of your game.

The doted part is variable depending of your installation.

 

If you're not sure, then ask.

Therion, Thank you for the welcome and thanks for your quick response. I put the skins in the "data\graphics\skins" folder but they do not show up in the game. BTW, I have the stand alone version. I must be doing something wrong.

Well, the only thing that comes up in my mind is, that you probably stored them in the right place, but you didn't change the drop-down selection Paint schemes from

"Official" to "Custom" where you select your weapons configuration etc.?

If you want to save yourself some time and effort, there will be official skin packs coming from 1CGS

The trouble with downloading them on your own is that it takes too long and else nobody can see those on you in the game unless they have them loaded, which due to the effort noted previously, they probably don’t.

Revisiting this, do I need to *enable mods* tickmark in options for this to work? Also, I noticed some skins at 2048/2048 while others slated at 4096/4096. Is there a filesize constraint when building skin files? A bit of technical info I'll dig into it but chime in will you?

No need to enable mods to view custom skins (which go in \data\graphics\skins). Though changes to bump maps that some skinners might also provide (which go in \data\graphics\Planes) do from memory require enabling mods to use. The 2048 versus 4096 are 2k versus 4k skins. As far as I know those are the only two sizes usable? And order to be able to see 4k skins you need to have enabled the Use 4k Textures option in your games graphical settings (or on the launcher).

I'll sure try your suggestion as I have the DXT5 texture file for a 2048/2048 skin. I'll MD5 the hash and report back if I could see my skin.
