-332FG-Buddy Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Has there been any update on the Normandy module, or if it's being delayed because of the covid precautions occurring? Also have they confirmed which aircraft are coming first?

Also have they confirmed which aircraft are coming first? Keep tabs on the mostly weekly Developer Diary updates. We've already seen plenty of updates on what the size of the map will be, the first images of the P-47D-22, talk about building vehicles for the scenario, etc. We're in a pretty normal period here at the start of development for the next title. 1CGS is very upfront about their development process and that means that they often announce they are working something very early into the process of working on it. The same thing happened with Battle of Bodenplatte, Battle of Kuban, etc. where there was an announcement and then things from the outside appear to move very slowly but on the inside they are working on the fundamentals and starting to build up. My guess is that by late summer we'll have four new aircraft including the P-47D-22 and that things will begin to roll from there. The Fw190A-6 is fairly early in the production list and I'm willing to bet that it won't take them a long time to do so we'll have a couple of Battle of Normandy specific aircraft moving quickly. It'll be next year that we really see the fruits of the development effort come together although the nice thing about Normandy is that Bodenplatte is so closely related that any new content for Normandy can have an almost immediate historical interaction with Bodenplatte content - especially online.
PatrickAWlson Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Probably some time in 2021 before Normandy is complete, but the development team releases content as it is created. We still have three collector planes in progress and then the ten planes for Normandy. The map is a big job and then there is other content. 1
RedKestrel Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Realistically I think we can expect some delays in their internal schedule, but since the devs usually don't give us a hard deadline that they are going to hit, its probably just going to feel like a lot longer. They seem to be cranking out big updates to the sim pretty frequently so they are obviously still able to work, but I don't think anyone in the world is doing their best, most efficient work at this point, if only due to the overarching anxiety. Combine that with distancing/work from home and you're looking at a productivity drop of some kind or another. All in all the general deadlines probably haven't changed, but I expect this development cycle to be longer than it was planned. It would be unreasonable not to.

Just one correction/addition, there are also 3 or perhaps 2.5 other planes in BON: C-47, B-26, an V-1. All AI. I'm guessing that 4 BON planes will be released this year, while the rest and the map will be released next year, late next year. Edited May 6, 2020 by Novice-Flyer 1
