47 years old , felt like a flying hero, zero experience in multiplayer....have been killed 99,99 %......

But it's just fun for me, learning by doing. I love it to fly around, looking the clouds and the landscape....ok, landing is getting better each time *lol* Just jumping like a "Flummi".

Today i tried to fly in Expert-Mode.....ha ha ha, can't see enemy fighters......rataratarata....BOOOM, i'm dead! It's a longway to be an Ace..........

Which is why rookies wing up with more experienced pilots. You'd be surprised to see what you can actually achieve when you have a competent wingman, no matter how bad you think you may be.

+1

Get in TS with some matey thats more experienced. Let him be your wingman and guard you from above. When you catch a six, follow his commands.

I will be 50 in less than a month :-)

I have been using flight simulators since late nineties, but have always resisted using combat fightsims.

Some years ago I tried MS CFS, and Jane's WW2 Fighters ( I really liked the Jane's sim !!! ).

IL2 completely changed my perspective and long time focus of attention in flight simulation. I ended up buying RoF and I already had DCS World.  My only civil sims now are Condorsoaring ( also great in multiplayer ) where I simulate what I sometimes do for real as a glider pilot, and ELITE for IFR trainning ).

Well, I love the multiplayer experience, both in IL2 and in RoF ( only have this one since last week... ) but I keep getting shoot down so easily that I feel terrible.

Now, I do not have TIR.... I might have to invest on it, but it's sooooo expensive :-(

IL2 was offered to me by a long time simmer friend who wanted to bring me into the world of combat flight sims...

I fly gliders, which is a lot cheaper than flying other types... Still very expensive, and I try to spend my money more for flying for real than in sims or add-ons

but you are more than right about me having to invest in TIR!

It's a MUST HAVE, specially now that I also own ( that one I bought it + most expansions in the 50% sale going on ) Rise of Flight!

I am getting older as well(over 40), but mentally a basket case  Maybe it is better to be a bit childish, naive and open minded than an uptight bigot  :P  I started my "flying" on Commodore64 and continued thru Amiga 500 to PC hardware in late 1990's. Could have spent all that money used on flight sims + accessories better, but would have lost a lot of fun from my life in the process. No regrets here. Flight sims are a hobby I can't get rid of, even I work with the real hardware

Where can new players go to look for wingmen?

56RAF had, until fairly recently, a squad member who had been trained to fly by Mick Mannock's instructor...

A large segment of this community is in it's 40s and 50s..

And some in our 50's and 60's ...   We don't wear helmet when dogfighting in order to blind and dazzle incoming enemies with the intense reflection of our grey hair  .

Unfortunately it only works on sunny days, which BTW don't certainly use to happen often enough at the russian steppe.  ;)

Now you've talking!

I feel positively securely. Even if I may be becoming more like Colonel Blimp every day!

43 here, and also started with Solo Flight on the Commodore 64 (there are videos of it on youtube, quite a sight!).  We went a long way since then!  I'm not very good at BoS either, but I got a few lucky kills on the Expert servers (and many more deserved deaths!).  Not always obvious to spot whether a plane is friend or foe.  I went ahead and bought a TrackIR, and I have absolutely no regrets (and no dog)!  Not much time to play because of the kids/house/job, so one more target for you for a long time to come!  See you in the virtual skies!

Spritely..not securely. Damned machines telling me what I mean.

Hello all,

I've spent a bit of time on the df server and for the most part it's a lot of fun. I do have one observation however; on most Hyperlobby df servers, it's considered bad form to attack an aircraft that is already clearly damaged but BoS players don't seem to be bothered with this little bit of df etiquette. On numerous occasions I have severely damaged (smoke/fire/control surfaces shot away), an aircraft have been notified of the kill, only to have another player swoop in fire at it and getting credit for the victory.

Just to be clear, I am not a point whore, and I'm not losing any sleep over it, but it is a bit surprising given that most players are experienced online 'flyers'.

Oh, and I get shot down waaaaayyyy more than the other way around ;-).

Good hunting,

CFC_Conky
