Anyone using DelanClip? Also EDtracker status

Right now my setup for headtracking is an EDTracker wired version, combined with OpenTrack to get pseudo-6DOF. I'm perfectly happy with it at the moment and really like the product.

However, looking at their site now, it seems like a combination of Brexit and COVID-19 have stopped them from re-stocking and I'm concerned they may not be back in any real capacity for a long time, if ever. Really wishing now I had bought 1 plus a spare unit back when I ordered it.

My unit seems to be functioning OK but the USB port on the unit looks like it may be having some issues with staying connected sometimes. So I am looking for an alternative for headtracking, especially one I can get during the quarantine if possible if my EDTracker were to die tomorrow. TrackHat, DelanClip, and TrackIR are the choices. I don't really want to wear a hat for headtracking and prefer a tracking clip, so DelanClip vs. TrackIR it is.

I know TrackIR is popular but very expensive, how does DelanClip compare in terms of usefulness? Price for TrackIR for me would be +/-250.00 CAD, whereas DelanClip would probably be $100 including the PS3 Eye camera.

Looking at their wired version, the USB cord they ship with is 1.7 m long, and looks built into the headset. Can you attach it to an extension USB cord if necessary for longer reach, or would that cause issues?
Anyway any reviews would be appreciated.

I've had a DelanClip (wired) for well over a year now and it's worked well with OpenTrack and a PS3 Eye camera. I added colour filters (comes with a couple) to eliminate most visible light. Like all IR systems it falls down in bright sun so you need to pull the blinds or live in Glasgow where sunlight is a rarity!

I'd guess you'd be fine with an extension cord, but I wouldn't go too long, maybe a metre or so. Check the USB 2.0 spec. for max. length.

You'll need the CodeLabs driver for the PS3 Eye camera if you go that route. Try here for a driver.

PM me if you need any help.

There is a Chinese knock-off of TrackIR 5, called TrackNP5 that is compatible with the TrackIR software. I wonder if it's any good...

I loved my EDTracker in Cliffs of Dover, but in BOX I had difficulty peering up and over the end of my aircraft's nose, which made pulling lead tricky.

I went for the Delan clip and PS3 camera combo and that's working great, even during the day and I sit next to a completely glazed wall, in southern Spain (lots of light). I must have my settings spot on I guess.

However, I do find that Delan clip needs re-centering every 20-30 minutes because it drifts a little bit, whereas EDTracker was solid as a rock for hours. Not a big issue and I have a button on my joystick set to re-center so it takes 2 seconds max.

I'm perfectly happy with Delan clip.

I just got a Delanclip and it's working great with Opentrack and a PS3 camera. I got the wireless one so there's one less USB cable draped across my desk.

I've had DelanClip for a few years and use it with FaceTrackNoIR. Works great. Camera placement has implications. Try different positions, namely on top and at the bottom of the monitor. I now use the latter and found I like it better.

Using DelanClip + PS3 camera and OpenTrack software. Works very well in IL-2 and DCS, also in Elite Dangerous.

I recommend DelanClip - same dimensions as original trackclip from Naturalpoint  , very strong build but you need find way to attach it to something (Velcro is yours friend).

Delanclip, Ps3 eye and Opentrack here. I've used it for years now and generally has been working very well, no big problems

I use painter's tape. It comes off easy but stays on tightly.
