=EXPEND=Dendro Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 My aileron control spikes and sometimes locks up and puts my into a roll where I end up flying into the ground....anyone else having weird issues? I open it up and disconnect the connector on that board then it works ok for a while (a week or so) then it starts again.

My VKB Gunfighter Pro L KG12 has been giving me trouble for nearly a week. Hardly slept over the weekend trying to get it corrected. I went so far as to do a complete reinstall of IL2 and everything associated with flight. Worked with VKB techs for a 36 hour stretch Saturday and couldn't find anything wrong on their end. When entering input for game controller settings they appear to register but during flight the assignments jump all over the map. Buttons and axes swapping positions at random. I still haven't gotten my pitch and roll axes straightened out. Can't seem to come close to what I had before when I was in love with my rig.
coconut Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) I've been having issues too, for quite a while but I'm not sure for how long. Every now and then, my axes freeze. When it comes to buttons spiking, it can happen if all axes (including the ones you don't use) are not properly calibrated, and/or if you have messed up the axis-to-button config and used the same button by mistake more than once. I had that problem, but fixing my duplicate-button issue seems to have made that problem go away for now. Glad to see it's not just me, because until now I hadn't found anyone else with the same issue. Edited April 28, 2020 by coconut 1
Beazil Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) You guys are using VKBDevCfg-C.exe to recalibrate right? Assuming you are using a Gunfighter. I also assume the same about thier other hardware as well, but this is the utility I use for calibration S! Edit: I know I've had to reset mine a few times. Edited April 28, 2020 by JG51_Beazil
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 OK... I will recalibrate. I have moments when the ailerons spike and then also where they go full deflection and then freeze.
-332FG-Gordon200 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 After my marathon weekend of trying to find a cure. VKB made a video of how to download, flash, calibrate etc VKB products. Hope this helps someone but I didn't find a solution to the problem. 1

Which is barely time enough to work through any problems that may arise with tech support. Pretty small window considering the manual isn't written for the common person. Say you want to change the pitch or roll input to get the feeling of a shorter throw. Under the axis adjustment section it says those axes can be changed by moving the sliders. They then move on to button assignment. No explanation at all. If you look through their forum you'll see 85% of the problem is that people can not get the instruction they need from the manual.

Is your unit unusable or are you able to fly but just not able to modify the axes?

Have you posted on this issue over on their forums? There are some pretty knowledgeable folks over there. Also you might send a message to rrhode, their North American rep. He can be very helpful also.
Tarapatraptar Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 The problem has been fixed by VKB HQ support - it was a software issue and not mechanical. 1
coconut Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Can we know what the issue was, so that everyone else may benefit from it?

=EXPEND=Dendro Posted May 12, 2020 Author Posted May 12, 2020 Yeah so mine randomly reverts to twitches and spikes every couple of days....it eventually becomes unusable and I have to strip it to unplug the roll axis connector. It then works fine for a few days as it then descends into its next cycle of madness.
Guest deleted@134347 Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 (edited) I had the lock-up issue when there was a short in the connectors somewhere. The blue/green lights on the 'blackbox' start to flicker very quickly, not sure if you paid attention to any of the lights there... The power reset fixed it temporarily, but ultimately I had to find the short and it was in the connection between the extension stick and the grip itself. The short materialized itself when the tightening bolt was over-tighten.. ? Edited May 12, 2020 by Count_de_Money

That was my thought. I experienced exactly the same thing. Recalibrating would help sometimes, but the problem would re-occur. Checking the connections to the board would be the next step if the software fix proves temporary.
Indianer Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 I have the pinky-button mapped to "alt"-key as a modifier, but sometimes(happens very rarely) my guns will fire a short ~1s burst when pressed. Happend maybe 5 times in 3 months. Fortunately it's the only issue so far. But strange..
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted May 28, 2020 Author Posted May 28, 2020 Sooooo....last week after taking it apart for the 1000th time I whipped out the old glue gun. I disconnected the connector, then reinserted it. I left about 10mm space for an emergency and then proceeded to hot glue the wires down against the board so they can't move at all. Since I did this I have not had any spikes at all so this may have solved the problem. What I did realise is the wires seem to be squeezed against the case and the board in front....amazingly this pinching seems to have been causing the issue but now that the wires are stuck firmly under the glue it seems to have solved the issue. ?
