315_R2r Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Hi all, in the past I did play old Il2 with 3 monitors setup... Recently I have start playing new Il2 BOS (Great Battles) - and now I connected the 3 monitors back. I know that topic was active in 2015 etc... But I did not find any suitable solution for my problems. It works on 3 screens due to NVidia Surround option. I run it in resolution 5040x1050 I have 3 following problems: 1. FOV and fish eye effect - see screenshot - the wings are stretched, but it is general issue - see the one from menu and point 3. 2. Menu, chat and user interface - optimal would be to have it in the middle monitor, adjustable in position (I know, I may ask for to much) 3. Bomb sight view - without any adjustable FOV it is truncated. I would appreciate the solution without usage of mods since not so many multiplayer servers allows mods. On screenshots I mark with yellow the most annoying options. I just wonder how the hell any other users with HiRes Wide screens can solve it or play Regards
E69_Chipi Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 Well, number 2 and 3 are program specific problems and we could "blame" devs for them, but number 1 is just a matter of geometry. You can't project an spherical world on a flat screen without distortion. Period. Tell the map makers about that. They have been dealing with three issue for centuries... The bigger the FOV you want to use, the bigger the distortion. Nothing you can do about that. There are simulators like DCS or Condor, with the possibility to render three (or more) views from different angles. That reduces distortion greatly, but it comes also with a big performance toll. But BOS does not have this option, thus it's is limited to a single rendering point of view. What you can do is to find a compromise between the distortion and the zoom (FOV) that you are using. I for one use a triple screen FOV narrower than the one most players are used to. So to a lot of them me display would seem like too much zoomed in. As I said, it's a matter of finding your balance point. You can check different FOVs with the mouse wheel and once you find the one you liked, you can "save" the default view, so next time you fly that airplane, the default fov and head position would be the one you saved. This has to be done independently for each aircraft and at the moment it is not possible to be done via config file with a numeric value. I already asked a long time ago about points 2 and 3. Apparently devs are aware of the problem, but priority is very low. To be honest I don't think they will ever fix it.
Vranq Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 (edited) I am really happy that I have only bought a single pack during sale. No native triple screen support is a no go for a flight sim in 2020. Even 1946 does better now. Take a look at racing sims like Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2 or Raceroom and see what a huge difference it is to have native support. Should have much higher priority. VR motion sickness hits a lot harder in flight sims and even too hard for many sim- racers who are using triple screens instead of VR because of motion sickness. Edited May 3, 2020 by Vranq 2

Thanks, understand, get bit use to the stretching now but it is annoying. Will have to live with that although from the old Il2 I remember there was better solution - however it is just my memory - need to look if I could find any screenshot from that time... The map is annoying, would prefer to adjust it for example for single left or right monitor to shown up - but understand the priorities of dev's.
315_R2r Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 BTW, thinking about the chat, hud and status - in some way they are offset/has margins to the full screen border - would be preatty easy to add some setting to made the offset, margin configurable This would however not solve the issue with the bombsight.
Patricks Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 I see a 3rd party software is mentioned above, since it's not an IL2 priority please enlighten me as to other solutions. I see "Flawless Widescreen" out there but it's fairly old and IL2 \ DC are not on it's list of supported programs. In BMS Falcon we have the ability to set a FOV in a config file, which helps but doesn't solve it ( really not an issue in a mostly BVR engagement), and as stated above DCS is better also.. be great to get this "better" in IL2!
