Dutch2 Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 In know from literature the Brits were always flying in a V-shape or Vic-formation. About the French and Germans I'm not for sure on that, but would it not be not a nice addition to let the Brits fly in Vshape?
Aurora_Stealth Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Yes that's the case for the RAF from 1939 - 1941 although they switched tactics to combat the more flexible Finger Four formation used by the Jagdwaffe. I suppose because of the flight sim originating from the Russian front it won't be a default flying pattern for the British aircraft flown by AI.. as some were used on Russian front without using that formation. Thing is, the game now includes battles much later in the war and now on the western front.. so how to choose which formation for which AI aircraft without some complex arrangement. I think you can still select V formation under formation comms when you're a flight leader though. From some photos I've seen, the Germans did still appear to employ V formations when on certain bomber intercepts on Defence of the Reich operations. Couldn't say whether this was a common practice, believe this was used in Gefechtsverband battle formation...
Dutch2 Posted April 27, 2020 Author Posted April 27, 2020 mm I’m more talking about WW1 PWCG-FC1, but if that is also the case in WW2 then its also a nice feature for PWCG-BoX.
PatrickAWlson Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 The finger four formation is a WWII construct. WWI was all tight formations. I also don't think WWI formations were all that formalized. The British had squadrons divided into flights which were units of four. Do not believe that the French or Germans did that.
