You can download and use custom skins at will, enabling mods is not required.
Just download them and drop them into the proper directory at:
PC>Disk>Program Files(x86)>Steam>steamapps>common>Battle of Stalingrad>data>graphics>skins>Plane
Then when choosing skins for an aircraft in game go over to the custom skins tab.

Yes thanks I downloded a few skins and was very easy to drop file in. Some very good skins on this site.

I took existing skins and converted dds files to bmp files. Then using GIMP added nose art, Mission/Kills symbols.Saved new GIMP .xcf files as new dds files. Edited Alpha files with DXT app.

I like the Dora. Very simple graphic, yet somehow effective.
