I could be wrong, but I think we're going the wrong way.

Hi Pat,

First, thanks for all the effort you put in. It's really appreciated! But, we may have a slight problem. I'm flying a Russian campaign on the Stalingrad map using version 8.6. I may be having a "senior moment", but it looks to me like we took off from a field deep in German territory and we're flying east to attack troops in Russian territory. On the map you can see red dots to the right of our flight. Those are German soldiers with German machine guns on a field loaded with German planes. Is it me, or are we going the wrong way?

OK, the target turned out to be German troops; I misread the map. I'm down west of the target area so I expect to be listed as captured after the mission ends, but my remaining flight mates are headed back to the west to our covert airfield deep behind enemy lines. I'm confused. More so than usual.

Mission is now over. I was not captured. However, my mates that flew back to our starting field were all listed as captured in the AAR. There were other Russian planes that landed at fields in German territory that were machine gunned by the ground defenses after landing. I don't see an error report button so I can't provide one. I'm going to upgrade to 8.7 and see what happens

Maybe I should have added this one to your interesting missions thread.

Yeah, that's what I said.....many times. Here's a couple of shots of planes being machine gunned on the ground after they landed. OK, one shot....they won't let me upload the other (5MB max). I've upgraded to 8.7 but I still have the mission file that all this craziness came from. Later tonight when I get some time I'm going to fly it again and see what happens.

Looks like a squadron assigned to the wrong field.  Zip the campaign (Use Report Error).  That is only about 500K and much more useful than the mission file.

I screwed up. When I upgraded from 8.6 to 8.7, I deleted the old version......including the campaign. Sorry....I obviously didn't think it through before hitting delete.

It's a bit of a head scratcher because I have tests that should detect airfield assignments on the wrong side of the lines.

Based on the pictures you are flying for the 495th fighter regiment (The only one in P40s) on Stalingrad between Sept 11 and Dec 23 (based on front line positions).  No snow so probably Sept or Oct.  The airfield assignments are correct.  if it happens again post something.

Hi Pat,

It may be tied in to Russian campaigns on the Stalingrad map. I just finished creating multiple Russian campaigns. On the Moscow and Kuban maps, you take off from Russian territory then fly west towards the front lines (as you should). When I start a Russian campaign on the Stalingrad map, we take off from German territory then fly east towards the front lines. I've tried different start dates, different planes/squadrons (always fighters), and we always start in German territory and fly east. The German campaign on the Stalingrad map has you taking off from German territory and flying east towards the front lines (as you should). I hope that helps.

I was actually flying in a Yak squadron (273rd out of Gromoslavka, I think). The P-40's were our escorts for the mission. There were PE-2's in the air as well and they too were fired on when they landed. Their airfield had static Russian planes (PE-2's) parked at the field as well. Thanks.

Damn, I wish I had noticed this earlier. In the campaign creation screen, I select Stalingrad from the drop down for campaign map. When you get to squadron selection, all the information about the squad appears at the bottom. The map listed says "East1944". Could that be causing it?
