Seyo Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Hello! Like the title says IL-2 identifies itself as a roomscale game to SteamVR. A roomscale game is a game where you're walking about to interact with the environment, like Half Life: Alyx. IL-2 getting this wrong does two things. 1) It activates "Chaperone", the safeguards that are in place to prevent you from hitting things as you move around in your play space, in my case a blue grid and camera passthrough. Hitting obstructions is of course not a concern when sitting comfortably in a chair so these safeguards have to be disabled, and they are global changes so you need to change them back for playing actual roomscale games. 2) It prevents you from re-centering your view with the SteamVR menu, but this can be worked around by using the in-game re-centering. The solution, as far as I understand, is simple. IL-2 needs to identify itself as a seated experience.
laurentresende Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 yes, the configuration of the part in steam VR, for all simu, flight, sim race, must be done in a seated position
Seyo Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) This is not something that the user does, it's up to the developers. DCS for example does this correctly, and identifies itself as a seated experience. The user setup is only to determine the size of your playspace. It is not something you change on a game-by-game basis. Edited April 28, 2020 by Seyo
spitfirejoe Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Quote IL-2 could be considered as a seated VR game with a bit of room scale experience. Have you ever tried to jump out of your little Cockpit to stand on your wing and watch the Aircraft from outside? Even you could walk around it if you would have the space in you room! Just try it, it´s fun.
Seyo Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Yeah, one of my favourite things to do is hanging out the side of the cockpit window, like dogs do in cars ?
Highwayman Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 +1 on this. I've been complaining about it for years however, and nobody seems to care that much... For me it's a big issue that's meant that I haven't flown in Il-2 for a couple of years now, other than trying each patch to see if they've eventually fixed it. I know it's possible to change your Steam VR room setup to Seated only, which gets rid of the chaperone, but for those of us that do use our VR in both room scale and seated in a cockpit setup on a regular basis, it's very frustrating to have to keep changing the room setup when you want to switch between one mode or the other... 1
