Bought a new yoke, problems with reversing.

I bought a yoke and hooked it up yesterday, along with my stick. I noticed a problem setting it up where the axes will work but are reversed. Not a huge problem, I go back to the menu and click the reverse axis button, then go back to flying. When I do this I suddenly get no response from either axis. I even unplugged the stick to make sure it wasn't interfering,  same problem. I am looking into joystick gremlin but it looks like quite a learning curve, so I was hoping someone could give me any thoughts before I figure gremlin out.

Make sure that the joystick number is correct after you reverse the controls (e.g. joy0_ remains joy0_ and doesn't change to joy1_)

Have you tried the inverted switch where you assign the axis. 
 

when you assign the axis I have noticed that if you start with push on pitch inverted switch wil lighten up and axis go opposit. Same if you take ailerons to the right when assigning
