JughedJughedJones Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I've got my mouse hovering over the 'buy now' button, but I havent seen many recent opinions about the sim. Can anyone let me know what I'm in for? I normally enjoy single player experiences, but like to mix it up in MP every once and a while. What's everyone's thoughts now that it's been in early access for a while? Thanks!

What is really playable now , mostly in solo _like the quick flights_ ? an updated picture will be very welcome. Thanks !
Goosevich Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Huh there's no straightforward anwser im afraid. I, for one, bit the bullet and i got the TC. The game in it's current state is really bare-bones. Map is OK for my taste, and the models, oh boy - they are THAT good. I did not recommend this to any of my friends, it's kinda basic at this point but i'm a sucker for tank sims.
Tonk99 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 If you're really into tanks then the price is understandable to an extent. The models are quite good and the map is very nice for the engine that it is in. For you you actually wouldn't have that much of a problem compared to what I am having. What I mean is is that for SP it is quite good with 2 official campaigns and a lot of user made content for how short it has been out, but on the other hand the MP is barren and there isn't much to do yet MP wise which sucks imo. Overall it is the best modern ww2 tank sim but there are still plenty of rough edges. I personally don't enjoy the command system too much, the AI is very wonky on the ground when it comes to spotting and such, and for some the controls are a bit weird. Like I said if you are really really into tanks I would get it but if you're more of a casual guy that just thinks the project is cool or if you are interested in exploring tanks I would wait until it is a bit more fleshed out. 2
inexus Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Been in the same situation for a while and saw that it won't be put on sale as it is in EA. If it doesn't have to be ww2 tanks but you are looking for a full fledged tank sim I suggest to check out Steel Beasts. It's the best hardcore tank sim today and it got a ton more stuff than you will probably ever see in TC in terms of the number of tanks, artillery, infantry, maps, etc. I haven't seen any clear roadmap for what is coming to TC apart from completing the remaining couple of tanks. There is no career mode, the mission generators available don't support TC at this point in time. Jason has reached out to look for mission designers so perhaps some more missions might be coming out... There is a bigger flaw at the moment with the AI being able to spot you through vegetation that takes away the immersion and so far no devs over the last few months have replied if they consider this a bug and will do anything to fix it or not. I still hope that TC will one day grow to become the best WW2 tanks available as it got started in the right direction. It would be great to get an update as to what is the roadmap/direction for TC to what is to come of new features and what bugs are intended to be addressed as it would help people to better know what they will be buying today. So, not trying to sound pessimistic but it's a summary from what I have observed in the last weeks. I'm still optimistic and waiting for good news 2
tribal50 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 TC is quite well designed. Maps are fine. Not so many bugs. And in term of contains, many missions and campaigns for free! Multiplayer is running. In total, means hours and hours of fun.
Leon_Portier Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I like that you can actually command the tank, assign targets to the gunner and even have the option to have the tank driven for you, which you can switch on/off on the fly. Its a bit bare bones content wise yet, there are more missions to come tho!
inexus Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 A career mode or mission generator would be GOLD to have for TC
Bonnot Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Thanks for informative replies from the pictures and videos I greatly appreciated the details -usual to IL2- but trying the free QM let me dubious ??? So, it looks more as a splendid Collector piece than as a wargamer software. So, maybe a bit later.............if the Chinese Verola don't crush me before ?
=FEW=Hauggy Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 I want to get TC but the lack of multiplayer pains me and I think the complex mission builder is a big part of why there's not much choice right now.

So far MP was the only real fun in TC. There are some server with TC support. +

kalnaren Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) Basically I'll echo the other guys that said it's very barebones. The included content gets repetitive, the AI is atrocious, the commander interface is clunky and only half works. I haven't played through the Russian campaign yet but the German one is very meh with basically zero replayabiliy, no idea why so many people seem to praise them. The models are beautiful though. ebbers Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Hi, just came back to TC after a year out, it is better and more developed but still a way to go to live up to the il-stur legend, it does need some updated graphics and stuff, and would need a few more tanks even some French and English tanks would be welcome when they bring out BON as that would be more historically accurate? not a bad game but it should be better in future and they lower the cost and that would bring in more folks.
SCG_Neun Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) Oh heck...buy it. A couple of visits to the movie theater would pay for it...Oh wait, they're closed, look at all that money you saved. Might as well... Best play is with comms and organized within a closed server. I haven't played SP in a long time, but the ballistics, gunnery and tank models are awesome, and I seem to notice some tweaking with the AI here recently. Seems to me, AT and enemy tanks are not scoring hits on every shot now..... Edited April 27, 2020 by SCG_Neun
johncage Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 i was tempted because i sawa video of su 122 but i'm not sure i can buy any tank sim that doesn't have t-72 or later

It has a very large amount of tanks, vehicles, maps, infantry types, etc. It is without a doubt the most complete tank simulator available today. Also you can control all your units at a more strategic level. It looks like it costs around $125 at the moment, but what you get for that price is 10x the amount of what you will get in TC. TC is very much for WW2 fans who loves the small details of the tank, the ability to drive in the areas where WW2 historical events took place and always dreamt about driving their own Tiger tank 1
Senna_94Tamburello_1994 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Been playing tank sims since Battlezone back in the day, this by far is the best of them all. 1

I know a guy that is really ticked off about some of the weaknesses of the game, but even he has to admit, this is the best of them all, for a WWII tank sim. I've been a member of this community since the very early days, and the truth is, the Dev's do work on things, but the lack of communication causes a lot of people to speculate, oh we wasted our money on this and that, but it's been my experience if you give them time, they will come up with a way to make the game better and better. This entire series of Great Battles is a work of art, a graphically stunning representation of combat in the air, and now with Tank Crew, on the ground. I don't play single player and enjoy the game in a closed server, but it is graphically stunning, and does a great job of "simulating" tank warfare in our little campaigns. I could go on and on, about what is good and what is not so good, but it averages out to be the best.....for me and our guys anyways. It's a matter of opinion like all things. If the Dev's correct a few things, and I have faith that they will, or at least give it their best shot, this game is going to be awesome. If you divide my time spent playing the game with the cost....it's one of the best things on my computer. I've never regretted a dime I've spent on any of these products and as a guy that has promoted combat simulation for many, many years now, I love it enough to work hard at getting the very best out of what it does do right.

SCG_Neun Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 The immersion, the sounds, the infantry out there was very well done, but the interface on that game just killed me. Graphically, it's just old and the stick figure infantry loping across the battlefield, while giving some effect, also had a kind of Jack Skellington thing going on. It just doesn't have the eye candy that this game has given me. I didn't play it that much at that time in my life as I was flying more than ground combat. I tried to get back into it some there for a while, but like I said, I never liked the interface on it and I found it a little finicky for an old guy like me. ? 1 1
inexus Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I saw your videos. So you also drive RC tanks? Looks nice.

Yes, that’s the big issue, especially regarding MP. Potentially TC is very immersive when you put a couple players in a tank (commander and gunner) and have to play it pretty much as IRL. You feel TC scores very highly on the ‘being there’ sensation. But, then you come across someone who jumped into an enemy tank, left the gunner position and told the AI gunner to fire at will, and then started driving around. His gunner ‘sees’ you and engages accurately from beyond that forest which lies between you... all of a sudden it’s not even a mediocre arcade game. There are plenty of other things that still need working on, as is to be expected from an unfinished product, but nothing that prevents a reasonable gaming experience. If you can play with a group you absolutely trust not to abuse the AI or if you can fill every crew slot on all tanks with humans (you won’t have many tanks!) then you could have a decent MP experience. Otherwise you’re really investing in the hope that TC eventually lives up to the promise it offers. 1
