76SQN-FatherTed Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Okay, so this is somewhat pedantic, but I think useful. On this forum I have seen "IL2" used as the name of IL2:1946, IL2:Cliffs of Dover, and IL2:Battle of Stalingrad interchangeably, which causes confusion. Personally, if someone writes "IL2", I think of IL2:1946 because that came first for me, but I can see that if you started with IL2:Cliffs of Dover, then IL2 could be shorthand for that, and likewise for IL2:Battle of Stalingrad (after all these forums are entitled IL2 Sturmovik). So, how about "IL2", "CloD" and "BoS"? You may think this is silly, but we a have a multinational community, many trying to communicate with each other, and a Russian development team, in a non-native tongue, so the fewer linguistics mix-ups the better if we want answers to questions and non-flammable threads.

Those are the terms I've been using...They are logical and it would be good if everyone used them. ... So, how about "IL2", "CloD" and "BoS"? ... Those are the terms I use. They are logical. I agree it would be good for everyone to use those terms.
Bearcat Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I just refuse to use CloD because of what it means.. It just sticks in my mouth.. LOL Unless I am trying to make a point .. I call it CoD. I think most of us are smart enough to figure out in the context as in wheter or not one is referring to Call of Duty or Cliffs Over Dover .. or you could use COD for Cliffs.. and CoD for Call.. but I just cannot bring myself to use CloD.. 1
=IRFC=Jorri Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I think sounding like Champions Leage of Darts is still better than sounding like a fish :D
FlatSpinMan Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Good topic idea, and good point by Furio, too. I agree with BC about CloD as it sounds fairly derogatory, so I use CoD or Cliffs. Reserving IL2 or Sturmovik for the original and it's addons is a good idea.
Bearcat Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Yup... and to distinguish IL2 original from FB--->1946 I may sometimes just use 46 for the current incarnation of the sim which for all intents and purposes not nostalgic or historic is IL2.. but usually when I say IL2 I mean 46. BoS works fine for BoS.. no one will get confused and think you are talking about a Bag od S*** or something like that ... LOL. CoD or Cliffs is clear enough.. LOL .. I remember when CloD was first coined.. even then I was like... Clod!!??
