"That Guy" With Ideas

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

     I'm going to be "that guy" right now and post ideas that I think are good, but might suck... or that might have been discussed. I will also say, I know nothing about programming, so these may be impossible to implement. Either way, here we go, and don't hesitate to tell me what you think.

1. Custom Controls by aircraft: (I won't mention where I saw this) I really would like to be able to set up all of the aircraft separately so I can use the same handle for throttle/mixture/prop, and turn around and fly a twin with the same quadrant using different settings. I know you can do this to a degree, but so far as I have found you will be changing the mixture setting trying to change the throttle for the #2 engine. Plus I think it will clean up the amount of settings shown for aircraft that don't need them.

2. Be able to set waypoints: This would be for online, but it would be nice to be able to set waypoints and get a course, and time or distance.

3. Proper generic squadron skins: Offline idea just so you can ID your guys in a furball. May seem very trivial, but will add to immersion.

4. Generic letter codes (or appropriate for country): Similar to above, just with letter codes for wingmen. I know this would be very tough to add, but I'm just spit ballin' here.

5. Finger four formation:  Also offline and trivial, I would like to see the U.S. (and British?) using the finger four, and get wingmen protecting their element leader.

I have a lot of other ideas, but I cant think of them right now. I will reiterate that I am no programmer, and I am sure many of these ideas just aren't currently practical, if they ever would be.

Thanks for a minute of your time,

        Nathan

On the topic of ideas,

Instead of full fuel and convergence settings applying to all aircraft. Fuel load and convergence settings are saved per each individual aircraft.

Vertical and horizontal convergence have their own separate setting instead of linked together.

I'd like to add the possibility to set different convergence values for different pairs of guns (four different convergence values for a maximum-armed P-47, as an example).

Definitely not a must, since the devs are already putting so much dedication into their work. But it surely would be nice to see this feature one day.

1) and 2) would improve usability a lot and shouldn't be to complex to implement.

3) and especially 4) could only be implemented by a "brute-force" approach: creating a skin for every squadron and then times 6-9 for every aircraft number. It would also require a lot of disk-space/huge download. And a lot of time. Best solution would be to give the community the "tools" necessary: A config file that allows to assign skins for every squadron (that possible already!) and also every aircraft in the flight. Community could create the skins and also prepare the config.

5) RAF also needs "Fluid Six", which is basically a "Finger Four" with a 3rd elements.

All these has been suggested before.
Back when this started it was a lot worse.
The idea that a plane should be operated as original plane was, has stuck with the development.
We got a lot more axis control now , but still some planes wont follow the same line as others. Like all the different radiator settings

You always need to find a new button to use.
so point 1and 2 are important. We fly sim, and we all got different equipment. How you set the controls should be up to you. I do not have a YAK nor a HE 111 button ir axis so I must use something else

I got a lot of panels and axis. It is a bitch remember what is what for each plane.
a ability to save settings for each plane would

releaf this.
also standarize radiator, mixture and pitch settings for all planes. So you can choose to use buttons or axis

Indeed, they have been requested for a long time. Now with the game going in a very positive direction of improvement. It may now be a good time to propose such ideas again.

Indeed. I see my axis work where it earlyer was a suspision it would not.
I can see no obvious obstacle for this not to happening, other than resources

I agree. I think you should be able to set up a default key mapping like you do now (so by default axis 1 is mixture, and axis 2 is RPM), but then also be able to override for each planes as wanted. So each plane should have its own tab. In the tab you'd also see exactly what controls are relevant to that plane.

Currently I use Joystick Gremlin to put my joystick into different modes as needed. I have a switch that turns my RPM and Throttle into different virtual axes and makes them Throttle 1 and Throttle 2 (although I lose RPM control then), AND it gives me a nice robo-female voice "dual engine mode" when I do it :). I also use it to simply duplicate my joystick buttons with shifts and modes. You can do all sorts of tricks with it, check it out.

216th_LuseKofte, Currently the same two buttons (for example water radiator open/close) can handle all the planes with switches or axes, but an axis can't handle planes with switches, so you might find Joystick Gremlin useful as well. You can turn any axis into virtual buttons that it starts pressing when the axis is at a specific range. That way you should be able to use one axis for all the planes.

In addition to what you guys said, the growing list of universal plane/engine/weapons -commands is frankly off-putting to especially newer players who may not know WW2 planes that well and don't know which commands apply to which planes and what are essential and what are not. For example Contact Altimeter. "What's that, something I need to worry about in my BF 109?" (It's for dive bombers, I know).

So this should be addressed in the game but in the mean time I've made a pretty useful tool of plane specific commands to alleviate these headaches:

I'd just like to be able to configure the flight as a flight leader, post briefing map so I can then get an idea of what distances the flight will be traveling and then dial in fuel loads and or weapons config after seeing the mission brief and map.

Also, having the ability to config the flight leaders plane (as flight leader) and have an "apply to flight" button so that my fuel, weapons and convergence settings are then applied to the flight.  Then click the start flight button to enter into the cockpit of your plane for the mission at hand.

At the moment it is backwards with plane configurations when you don't know the details of the mission.  Also configuring fuel loads for flight individually is a bit of a click fest in suckage.

I would love to have a additional command, to toggle the Revi on and off.

It works with the migoto mod, but it would be great to have this in the core game.

If we can suggest some improvements, I would love to have the possibility to give more kind of orders to my flight partners, like:

- help (in a fight);

- target the bomber or fighters;

- target the boat / tanks / trucks / buildings / planes, etc. for the ground targets;

- proceed to next waypoint...

and some more I actually forget by now.

I agree this would be usefull.

What I find more unusual, is that rof already  has this feature working for a long time

You have your "default" key bindings for all planes. But then you can individualy map each planes keybindings, even deadzones  and curves.

I dont know why they didn't straight up imported that feature from the start

3. Proper generic squadron skins:

This is something I've been wanting since the first time I booted up the campaign. It would be great if the devs focused more on producing generic skins  ( best case scenario, one for each squadron represented in each career theater, though that may be out of scope), instead of making a bunch of pilot-specific skins that really can't be used together without looking out of place. I find myself rarely equipping anything other than the default skins. Customized tailcodes would make this even better, like it was in CloD.
