Testtankplates ??

What are these; testtankplates, from the selector:

And all this time I thought they were for testing the armored plate skirts for the panzers in tandem with the testtank. Never clicked on either as generally those type of strange items in the ME lead to a mission crash. Do they explode when destroyed by Aircraft or the Damage MCU?  Play with them in some non-important test missions Jack and give us the low down.

i assumed they were for testing AP rounds by the devs during tank crew development. Never bothered as they dont have any in-mission use.
