Anyone renting a server? Can you advise?

I have been hosting, and playing the sim, from my own machine for some time now, and I grow more upset with the instability issues, freezes, crashes, etc... because I host and fly on the same computer.  It's growing more problematic as more of the BlitzPigs, and our friends are flying again.

Is it possible to use a server rental service with the Great Battles series?  We have one for Assetto Corsa Competizione, and it works remarkably well.  I want to provide us with a similar experience with our favorite sim, so we all can fly and not have the thing crashing at inopportune times, especially on the larger maps.

Any help, or guidance, would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps check out Amazon Web Hosting or their rivals. As I understand it you set it up and only pay for what you use, i.e. you turn it off after the session is done. It can be cranked up in specification easily, or so I am told and have witnessed from a work perspective. They talk of only a few $ per day.

One of our guys did suggest that Snowy, but thanks for the reply.   When I looked at the Amazon web site for that I got the impression that it was only for "enterprise" level hosters, like a big game developer wanting to host their entire multiplayer lobby, etc...  I may be wrong.  Will try to contact them.

Why not run the Dserver on that same box?

Our squad runs CloD Dserver, DCS and GBS on the very same server...

How?  I have no idea how to upload it, never ran the Dserver for this game.

Basically, you just install the game on the server, as you would on a normal Pc/Client. You can even run the Dserver on your own PC...

You will have to request a key for the Dserver to register and to be able to run it, as you cannot use your own login for it.

Start the Dserver,  create a .sds file for it, in which you set the difficulty options and the rotation list of missions.

Yeah, that's the short version :)

I think El is maybe using a simplified setup that I've seen for other games in the past, where you rent a pre-configured server with the actual server binary already installed, as opposed to just renting a Windows box and installing il2 onto it.

El, I have a suspicion that the market for il2 isn't big enough that pre-fab server rentals exist.  The community's only big enough to really support 10 servers or so.

Yeah, it's kinda looking like that is the case.  Sadly.   And now my rig is down for repairs, so no flying till next week sometime by the look of it.

For what it's worth I toyed with setting up a dedicated server a few years ago, and it's not so bad/complicated.  I asked the devs for a dedicated server key and they got back to me fairly quickly.
