il2crashesnfails Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I was in the process of landing applying flaps as one should do. However, in the end the flaps on both side were missing. I had no Idea. Is there anyway to tell from looking at instruments that the are gone? Also in the same landing a wheel was missing. I had a solid green light so I thought all was good. Is there anyway to check that a wheel is missing aswell? 4
Raven109 Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I haven't flown the 111, but if you switch crew positions, can you not do a visual check-up of the aircraft before landing? I'd imagine that in reality, the pilot would ask the crew to report visual damage. I think the gear lights just tell you whether the gear has been extended or not, which in this case it has. 1

I dont switch crew positions not yet anyway. I not even sure what key to use for that? Seems like a good way to check
56RAF_Roblex Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Nice bombing under pressure and well done for getting home. Those sort of missions are so much more fun than getting there and back without being intercepted ? 1
Chief_Mouser Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 A good way to tell if you've lost a flap on the Il-2 is to lower them when landing. I only had one left and it totally disrupted the airflow and snap-rolled me straight into the ground ?. 2 1

Knarley-Bob Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) I just hit one of my F-# buttons ( in flight) that show your aircraft from the out side if I need to see how bad I've been shot up. They'd be the same views shown on your cool video. KB Edited April 20, 2020 by Knarley-Bob 1

It is tempting to do as you suggest and hit f2 though! 12 hours ago, Retrofly said: Was this AI or MP? That was AI attacking me in the vid.
Knarley-Bob Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I figure why not? If you had real crew members, they'd let you know...... 1
Raptorattacker Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Hey CnF, personally I would check my rear-view mirror, pull over into a safe spot, hop out and have a quick look around my vehicle and then carry on my way... Why? Rap 1

Finding out a flap was missing on finals was an almost certain death sentence. In all the years I have been playing IL2 GB since, I have never had that problem on finals so I just assumed IL2 did not model the effects as well as they should. 1

I think this would be a great Idea to put into the game again. To have the flaps blown off on one side and the other side still work. Would be interesting to see the effects on the plane when landing

Thing is, if you're THAT badly beaten up with obvious bits missing off your plane then it's FAIRLY unlikely that you'll be going fast enough to violently flip you when you lower your flap (that's 'flap', not 'flaps'!?). You CAN completely lose control though because the lift is modelled really well and certainly enough to screw up an approach! What am I saying???, this is CnF's post. He above anyone knows the ins and outs of dodgy landings!!! I hope you're all keeping healthy, by the way? Rap 1

It was six to nine months ago it happened. 1
