Intermittent / 'Dynamic' Flames

Type of improvement: Immersion / Visual Effects

Explanation of proposals:

It can be seen in some combat (and other) footage that a burning aircraft would often "Cough" flames, so to speak. Burning aircraft exhibited intermittent bursts of flame and increase in thickness of smoke as the aircraft burned, as the fire became more severe. Fires can also be seen to temporarily extinguish and re-ignite in quick succession.

In essence, this might translate in-game as 'dynamic' fire effects - or more variation to fires. I think it would be great to see fires develop in severity over time - perhaps starting with the 'bursts' of flame seen in the below video examples before becoming more constant. Perhaps, with the newly-added varying fuel leak severity, this could also affect the fire mechanics, with more serious fuel leaks developing more quickly, or even instantly, into full-blown fires. I've included some example videos below.

Benefits:

The fire effects in IL2 are already excellent , but I think this would add to the overall immersion significantly, both for WW1 and WW2 modules. Currently, flames seem to be represented in something of a "Binary" way - the aircraft is either not on fire, or it is fully burning, with no real variation between the two states save for a quick 'build-up' of flame. I think that a more 'dynamic' effect would add a whole new level of immersion and a greater sense of uniqueness and personality  to each 'kill'.

Here are two  video examples of aircraft burning. Throughout both videos you can see flames 'bursting' out from fuel tank and engine fires. The second video is a good example of a fire growing in severity.
