Hi all ,

Me (Edwin) and my good friend (Stef ) ,from Belgium  did back in ‘98 a lot of online Airbattles  on Jane’s USNF ‘97   U.S. Navy Fighters ,wit a simple phone conection on Win98.

It was all beginning then , and we had tons of fun!

I know , this is a reel long time ago and things did change a lot , there for we was hoping here to find someone willing to  help  us back  fliying and dogfighting like in the old days , we would apreciate it a lot !

Right now i got a quadcore pc running on win7 , my friend got a bit modern version running on Win10 , we both got a good grapic card en i,think enough Ram en hardisk space availeble. We both got Il2 1946 instaled an running  .

Would be nice if we could get back online in this setup , but if its not possible we are willing to buy new pc’s more powerfull ,as long we are shure we can go back dogfighting afther our  investment .

thanks for your time , al help is more then welcome ...

Greetings ,

Edwin

I think we need a bit more detail about the system specs to see if the PCs are good enough. A lot depends on the settings you prefer for your graphics and your monitor (for example, a 1080p monitor will take much less to run than a 1440 or 4k monitor, and the refresh rate can matter too).

So if you could give us your CPU, RAM, monitor and GPU (Graphics Cards) names and specs we would be able to give you a better idea if you have the right stuff. Also be advised that the later modules of the game (Bodenplatte and Kuban) seem to take a little more horsepower from the PC to get the most from it.

If you are looking for how-to tutorials on getting into the game and learning to fly the various airplanes, the best single place to go is Requiem's Air Combat Tutorial Library on YouTube. he has familiarizations for all the aircraft in the sim, as well as tips on air combat maneuvering, formation flight, and deflection shooting.

There are a few 'dogfight' multiplayer servers that are usually pretty populated - despite the name these servers feature missions with ground targets and team-based objectives, not just dogfighting. Combat Box is based in North America and is focused on the late war planes, Knights of the Air is based out of central Europe and covers the whole series from Moscow to Bodenplatte, and Wings of Liberty is based in Russia usually based on the modules before Bodenplatte came around. These are more or less 'full real' servers, but Wings of Liberty has a plane icon on the map showing where you are to aid in navigation. The other two servers have realistic navigation enabled and don't have this 'GPS'. Combat Box has a training server for people to try things out and practice if they want to before diving into the main server.

Tactical Air War is a campaign server that you can register for. It keeps track of your missions, lives and earned planes over an 8 map dynamic campaign. It usually runs for a few weeks before taking a break and then coming back with a new campaign. It is on right now.

There is also Berloga, which is a true dogfight server. The main areas are team based furballs and there are areas set aside for duelling. So you could set yourself up with your friend and conduct duels against each other for learning purposes there too.

Of course there are a great many other servers I haven't mentioned, but I figured I would cover the most popular ones for you.
