ShamrockOneFive Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 (edited) I started taking a lot of screen shots recently and IL-2 BoS looks so stunning in screen shot form that I had to share some... They are all currently featuring the Yak-1 which I'm just loving to pieces. I've always been into the Yak series and started flying them earlier on in the IL-2 days when everyone was so stuck on the La-5 that I just had to try something different. The Yak-1 in BoS is very similar to my overall experience in IL-2 Forgotten Battles and onwards.. of course the modelling level has changed but there is much to the aircraft that I was already familiar with. It's just so sweet to fly on its own... the Pe-2 being in second place in overall personal enjoyment. Edited April 29, 2014 by ShamrockOneFive 1
JG4_Sputnik Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I love your Yak into pieces too.... in my crosshairs Nice shots! Normaly I'm also in for the less 'famous' planes, but in BoS I have not a big joyce just yet. Anyhow the Yak really flyes great and is in experianced hands a though competator. But I still feel a bit uncomfortable in russian cockpits - Im just so used to the german gauges. Everytime I switch it feels a bit like switching from Apple to Microsoft Cheers
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 LOL yes there is sort of a weird back and forth thing between the German and Russian controls. Both have very distinct styles about them and how they are laid out and presented. It's very neat to be able to experience both. I've put in some time on the 109 but not nearly as much as the Yak... it's fun but more brutal to fly I think. Something about it tells you you're flying a very deadly serious high performing aircraft (the 109) and it never lets you forget it either... while the Yak-1 feels a bit more joyful. Only way to describe it.
Volkoff Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) She is lovely. I wanted to try the Yak-1 tonight, but I think my of trackir died. I am going to have to wait to replace my trackir before playing in multiplayer, as I am not used to the hat switch approach. Your pictures will fuel my imagination, until I can get in there and join you online. Before my trackir failed, I did get to try out the Gustav. The Yak has her work cut out for her, but the challenge will be exciting. I think that the Yak is outclassed by both of the Bf-109 machines, but I like the Yak. The Yak facing down the 109s reminds me of the Mig-17 facing down the newer generation American machines in Vietnam. Like the Mig-17, I don't expect the Yak to miraculously turn things in the favor of the red team, but she will cause the Erich Hartmann fanboys some grief, now and again. DeafBee Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Last night the 109's in multiplayer was falling from the skies in big numbers. I guy even wrote that he felt sorry for the 109's now. After mainly only flying in the Lagg3 and typically outnumbered 2 to 1 I really don't feel sorry for them

They're as despicable as the real hardline fascists were. They're getting what they deserve. Edited April 30, 2014 by Boussourir
LLv34_Flanker Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 S! Boussourir, quite uncalled and sour comment. Calling and comparing some childishly acting players fascists, really? What I saw in MP some time ago was that because of no DM on flaps, the "good old IL-2 flap fighting" is there more than ever. All the planes are too fast, roll too fast, have FM issues of various kinds and all that making it moot to say plane X or Y is soo good or bad now. Devs need data to crunch, that is what MP gives. 1
Rama Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Boussourir, quite uncalled and sour comment. Agree Calling other Fascists (or comparing them to) is not acceptable on this forum. 1

The Blue team has it made in the shade, fighter wise. All they have to do is stay high and fast, grin, bnz for the win. I am glad that we have the Yak-1, though. While outclassed, the Yak-1 should come in handy or at least fill in, till we have red fighters that are actually on par with blue fighters, one day. I can't wait to sim-fly her in multiplayer, next week. I am sure I will eventually bond with this little red star clad underdog. MJ Edited April 30, 2014 by =69.GIAP=MIKHA

MJ The great thing about the Yak-1 is that although it doesn't quite out perform the 109s it does come much closer to matching them overall than the LaGG-3 does AND it has better handling than the 109s do for the most part. I haven't taken it out online but definitely give it a try. Experienced 109 pilots will still be able to dominate if flown properly is my guess but any mistakes and the Yak pilot can punish them for it

Well, the Yak-1 sure is pretty. I just have to bond with her, is all. MJ
