KPnutskgwanchos Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Hi Folks ... Im feeling the need to do a bit of fiddling whilst on lockdown and was wondering about trying some IL2 MODs Im quite interested in trying the clouds mods out for example but what would you all suggest are "must have" mods to try I don't want to spend hour and hours trying to get half finished or unstable mods to work though ... I just want to enjoy all the hard work you guys have done, without the hassle is there an easy to find one stop shop where I can get the latest mods without having to plough thru hundreds of pages of WIP posts ?
CanadaOne Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 The improved clouds mod is really good, so is the Kuban winter textures mod.

CanadaOne Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Go to the mods section/forum, look for the improved clouds thread, and in the first post the guy who made it gives the updated version. Same with the Kuban map mod I think. 1

Retrofly Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I can't get mods working, the tick box stays forever unticked.

If you select it and confirm, game needs to be restarted. So, when you check after restart of the game and realize that settings didn't change, then it is almost 100% probable that the file "startup.cfg" located in the subfolder DATA is write-protected. To resolve this, find the mentioned file, right-click it, the select properties - here you will see that the file's attribute is set to "read only". Change this attribute and apply. Now you should be fine and you can set "mods on" in your game. Cheerio 1

Hi Thank you, this fixed so many issues I was having, such as view distances and clouds, I was even missing the "extreme" cloud settings up until now. Thanks again!

Thanks again! No wonder you've missed so many things - most of your game's settings/configuration is stored in this file. But axis assignments, buttons, key mapping is a different story - they're all stored in your INPUT folder, so be careful. I always make backup manually of this folder and the file, especially before I update my game. 1 1

Thanks again! Please note that with rowdyb00t's cloud mod you need to use High instead of Extreme setting for the clouds. Details you will find in the thread if you're interested. It's an absolutely fabulous mod! 1
