Roons Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Just posting this here for more awareness since many don't know about adding fans that can increase immersion in flight sims. Its amazing to use them in DCS. Hopefully IL-2 will add support one day for exporting air speed to telemetry data. I use static fans right now, but the idea of feeling the true wind speed in IL-2 would be amazing!! Type of improvement: Add air speed to the telemetry output for motion simulators. Explanation of proposals: Adding the air speed of an aircraft to the telemetry output utilized by motion software such as SimTools, SimRacingStudio, and other programs would enable the use of fan kits to simulate wind. Utilizing the output per the Motion Support for IL-2 thread here, the addition of a UDP message that includes the airspeed would allow fan kits to speed up or slow down depending on the airspeed of the aircraft. Acc_x, Acc_y, and Acc_z are not able to be utilized for fan kits as those variables are utilized for XYZ movement depending on g-force. Benefits: Utilizing a fan/wind kit with motion simulators or even a static environment in VR or flat screen is incredibly immersive. Below are a couple of reviews of wind kits that are currently commercially available. Wind kits are very popular in racing sims; however, DCS, War Thunder, and even Elite Dangerous currently output speed and are amazing with a fan/wind kit.
aero-mess Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 I have built the wind simulator by this video: It is cheap and almost everyone can build that. You will get another dimension of virtual flying. For example it works nice with War Thunder and SimHub software: https://www.simhubdash.com/ I wanted to place a request, but I saw this thread. So you can see there is demand for this feature. Developers, can you make accessible flight data or at least connect with developers of SimHub to make these things reallity? War Thunder exports these data (like API) which can be found when the game is active on http://127.0.0.1:8111/state or http://127.0.0.1:8111/indicators : INDICATORS altitude_10k: 9192.435547 altitude_hour: 9192.435547 altitude_min: 192.435547 aviahorizon_pitch: -14.951449 aviahorizon_roll: 0.368666 bank: 0.134459 clock_hour: 10.616667 clock_min: 37 clock_sec: 17 compass: 101.270905 flaps: 0 fuel: 319.206757 gears: 0 gears_lamp: 1 manifold_pressure: 1.287475 oil_pressure: 69.804596 oil_temperature: 69.804596 pedals1: 0.118656 pedals2: 0.118656 pedals3: 0.118656 pedals4: 0.118656 prop_pitch: 1 radiator: 0.909804 rpm: 3699.984619 speed: 78.666588 stick_ailerons: 0.003143 stick_elevator: 0.113651 supercharger: 0 throttle: 1 trimmer: 0.118998 turn: -0.001285 type: "typhoon_mk1b_late" valid: true vario: 17.614487 water_temperature: 113.774384 weapon2: 0 weapon3: 0 STATES AoA, deg: 3.7 AoS, deg: -0.1 IAS, km/h: 284 M: 0.27 Ny: 0.96 RPM 1: 3700 RPM throttle 1, %: 100 TAS, km/h: 326 Vy, m/s: 17.6 Wx, deg/s: 0 aileron, %: 0 compressor stage 1: 1 efficiency 1, %: 86 elevator, %: 11 flaps, %: 0 gear, %: 0 magneto 1: 3 manifold pressure 1, atm: 1.29 oil temp 1, C: 70 pitch 1, deg: 32.8 power 1, hp: 1808 radiator 1, %: 91 rudder, %: 12 throttle 1, %: 100 thrust 1, kgs: 1301 valid: true water temp 1, C: 114 2
Floppy_Sock Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 Man that would be awesome if we had access to something similar. But given what Jason said in this thread An API to the public is not going to happen. ?

But given what Jason said in this thread An API to the public is not going to happen. ? That is from a very old thread in 2016 and they actually now do support telemetry output as of 2019. Here is the main thread: We just need them to add air speed to the telemetry output along with the XYZ axis and acceleration (used for heave and surge). Air speed needs its own output for gauges and wind kits.
Floppy_Sock Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 (edited) I'm fairly sure that telemetry output no longer works. There's a UDP output for simshaker but I'm fairly sure it's output is encrypted in some manner or at least it's output doesn't match the spec sheet that's attached in that forum thread you linked Edited April 23, 2020 by Floppy_Sock
Roons Posted April 25, 2020 Author Posted April 25, 2020 Telemetry output works. I'm using it in my DOF Reality P3 motion rig now with SimRacingStudio software. The guys at SimRacingStudio advised that 1C just needs to add air speed to their telemetry output to add fan support. It also works with SimTools.
Floppy_Sock Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Ah yes I see now that it works. Very strange. Must have been my mistake.
Roons Posted November 30, 2020 Author Posted November 30, 2020 Bump - since this is still needed for those of us using wind kits with IL-2.
Dutch2 Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 (edited) Great but I do hope 1C will make it an open system so freeware like simhub can be hooked on and not only the commercial parties or hardware sponsors. Same btw is counting for the chair shaking telemetry. Edited November 30, 2020 by Dutch2
