Trouble With Complex Trigger + Air Spawns RESOLVED!

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I can get planes to air spawn at mission start but so far I have been unable to get planes to air spawn using a Complex Trigger.

Here is the logic layout I am using.  When a (proper) plane enters the Complex Trigger nothing happens.

All linked planes (bombers and escort) are not Enabled.
If I replace the Complex Trigger with Mission Begin's and Enable all planes in both flights everything works well.
All timers have their times noted. (XsXms=X seconds X milliseconds)

As always your help is greatly appreciated.

You don't trigger a complex trigger translator (in your case, with the timer). Instead you either select its Enabled property so that it's enabled at mission start or you activate it using the activate trigger.

Ahhh.  Thanks.

Let me remove the Mission Begin and 2s Complex Trigger that are Target Linked to the CT and ensure that the CT itself is enabled.

I'll let you know.

I take it that the rest of the logic is OK?  Any timing/routing issues?

OK.  Fixed.

I removed the Mission Begin and 2s Complex Trigger and checked that the Complex Translator was enabled.  It was.  and it was set to cylinder.  I also checked to make sure the proper aircraft was detected.  I just use the country as that seems to work and I'm not yet at the stage of using MCU's in a way that I only want certain planes to trigger an event.

So I ran the mission and they didn't spawn.  ?

I went back into the ME and reopened the CT's Advanced Properties.

I had 'On Object Entered' checked.  Good.

Then I had my Forrest Gump moment...("stupid is as stupid does").

Each Event entry was 'On Object Spawned'  not 'On Object Entered'.

I learned a valuable lesson about one of the (many) annoying "features" of the Mission Editor.  Even though I had checked 'On Object Entered' in the upper box, every time you select a target from the 'Find Target' box it automatically chooses the first item on the list, 'On Object Spawned'.  So I had to choose 'On Object Entered' for  each event target I wanted activated.  Once I did that I restarted the mission and as I passed through the Complex trigger all the planes appeared and formed up properly.  Now everything's Jake.

So lesson learned.  I hope that someone else having a similar problem reads this and is helped by my "stoopidity".

(since I made a copy of the original mission with Mission Begin instead of Complex Trigger because it works,, the logic broke at the Attack area point.  the bombers drop but do not continue on route.  shouldn't be a problem to fix though)

Thanks Jim for the help.  More of a nudge maybe but it got me looking and I found my real problem in addition to having too much logic at the Complex Trigger.

Look for another episode of "Help Mr. Wizard!" starring Beebop as Tudor Turtle, all too soon on this channel.?

For Beebop:

So i understand the whole scheme is OK, and just set the Complex Trigger to Enabled. On Obj Spawned when you spawn, and On Obj Entered via a check zone MCU?

It's kind of Complex for my old brain ... Can you maybe post your construction as a Group file?

I am curious what it actually does regarding a mission i once started last year, and gave up as it was too complex for a ME starter.

Hi there

In case you want to have the complex trigger feed a counter (up/down)

use 'entered ALIVE', 'spawned' for counting entries

and , 'left ALIVE',  'finished ALIVE' and 'killed' for counting exits.

Otherwise killed planes are counted double for exit after 'finished' or 'left'

Sorry this took so long.  It was 2AM here when I read jollyjack's request.

As requested, here a Group that can be placed in any mission.

Included ReadMe text:

This is a Group that will spawn a flight of 7 B-25 bombers at 2000 meters and a cover flight of 4 P-51 fighters at 2500 meters upon entry of the Complex Trigger by a selected aircraft.  It includes the first waypoint for each flight.

You will need to ensure that the 'On Object Entered' is appropriate.  I have just used a single country, in this case Germany.  Any German Coalition plane will trigger the flights.
You can also change the plane types in the Properties of each plane.

Enjoy!

I hope this is helpful.

@ Deciman; Thank you for the tip.
