jollyjack Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 Is there a way to smoothen waypoint curves an Ai plane makes? F.i. Low, Medium or High priority settings? Distance? Radius?
Sketch Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 (edited) Add more waypoints to the turn...? Once you set your first waypoint, and object connect it to your vehicle enitity... You can then hold left shift and click to add more waypoints quickly. Edit: Added image as reference Edited April 15, 2020 by Sketch 1

Radius? Nope - beyond our control. You can mitigate in some circumstances wirh more waypoints as Sketch suggests, but for me it’s normally not worth the test/adjust/re-test time. I do it now and then however when it really matters. 1
jollyjack Posted April 16, 2020 Author Posted April 16, 2020 Well, there are already 50, following a river bedding LoL. PS At one point i want the plane to Ai-dive under a high rw bridge across the river. Set height to 1.5 m and 2 m above the watersurface (groundlevel) Can't get that to work. Guess the waypoint system doesn't like stunts too ..
Sketch Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 Yeah I don't think the Ai will behave like that. They do try their best to fly safely.
IckyATLAS Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 The plane cannot go so low. AI is limited to probably minimum between 50mt and100mt on open water. They consider also a little the ground levels in front. So if you do not have flat ground open in front of the plane like the sea the minimum altitude is difficult to achieve as its ground collision avoidance bubble may look further front. I tried AI flight in deep valleys low with many tight turns and it won't work. One problem is that when the plane starts to enter a tight curve it won't pull the max g number possible, but will do a gentle turn even if your waypoints push for that. Because of this gentle turn it may miss entering the target waypoint detection area. Then it starts turning back to the waypoint it missed and may do one or two turns. In a valley deep in the mountains this is fatal. The deepest you are in the valley and less lateral space you have for the turns. So when planning a path with a lot of ground constraints you must plan the positioning of the points so that during curves it won't miss any and that the altitude allows for enough lateral space to do the turn. This depends also of the speed of the airplane. The faster it goes and less tight will be the curve. I had a lot of fun to plan trajectories inside valley with multiple turns and elevation problems. 1 1
jollyjack Posted April 16, 2020 Author Posted April 16, 2020 Well, i give up then, was messing with Stoopy's startet River Race adding stunt soup to his (great!) idea. The rw bridge is his finish line. And the kuban_lighthousebig marked route with towers are nice, but they're no lighthouse; there's no (programmable) for them light for a race in the dark. A race through the snowy Kuban Mountains should be a nice one too ...

jollyjack Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 My favorite for chasing boogie men ... and testing a newly bought plane in Soopy's Kuban interactive ...

As an ex il2airracing member I would be interested in this. Can you please link me to it? Now that I have flying Circus I could use observation balloons to mark the course. I know, i know, purists hate the idea of "bastardizing" the game that way but hey, all combat and no play makes Waldo Pepper a dull boy. Besides, air racing in 1946 taught me good engine management and trim use so in combat I became faster and smoother. (not that it helped a lot. there was always someone better than me in aerial combat. That's why in "wartime" I prefer mud moving.) ? TIA
