My Kaspersky antivirus deleted yesterday my il-2.exe  saying it is PDM:Trojan.Win32.Generic -  other malicious software ..

I'm alone, or  my PC join me  in protest against new patch paper wings in Flying Circus airplanes??

I used Kaspersky antivirus for a short time many years ago on my workstation at my job. It was the source of a lot of strangeness and instability. It seems to have a hair trigger for determining something is malware. But then it also missed a bunch of malware on my PC that I had to remove with a different AV software.

There's a ton of free antivirus software out there, even the basic Windows one is pretty good.

Thanks for answering. Hmm many online test regarded Kaspersky  as the best ... what paid version do you use/recommend, btw what different AV software removed malware which Kaspersky  missed?

This was probably five years ago or more. Perhaps they have improved - it was a professional IT person that installed it on my machine and assured me it was the best AV software money could buy, but a year later when they were no longer offering support was when I started having issues. I ended up using Malwarebytes to remove the stuff Kaspersky missed, but I didn't really like that one either. I have heard that things have changed with that software in that past couple years, I know it used to be the gold standard among some folks for getting rid of malware.

I ended up using Microsoft Security Essentials. Yeah, I know, Microsoft, yuck. But so far it hasn't gummed anything up and it's easy to configure, and I've never had any of the compatibility issues or other problems I had with Kaspersky or Norton or any of those. Maybe its just that the more aggressive and proactive the AV software is in finding threats, the more likely you are to get a false positive.

Hi,

I'm using Kaspersky too and had none of such a false positive with il-2 exe.

I call Kaspersky "My little paranoid Russian" because it's known that it produces false positives from time to time but in my opinion it is better to get a false positive than the opposite.

Afaik "Bit Defender" and "Norton",  are mostly also as Kaspersky in the "Top 5 " of the most different AVP-Tests out there.

That a payed AV stopped working (=getting insecure) after the paid period (like RedKestrel described) is quite normal.

But as long as Kaspersky is up to date (latest virus detection database as well as the latest Program version) such things should not happen.

A thing that I know for sure:

To discuss which is the "best" AV-Program is like to discuss which religion is the best ;) and you will properly will end up with a LinuxOS running a VM for Windows (what is not recommended for gamers ).

It always depends on what you want  and what you priories (Virus detection, system resources, no false positives aso.) and of course there is no 100% security.

Btw. did you managed to re-download Il2 without getting it deleted?
