oneeyeddog Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I noticed an increase in the number of players on the US Expert server these last few evenings. Good.
leitmotiv Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I agree with Feathered_IV. The only time I enjoy playing online is against a very hardcore friend who fights to the death and I fight to the death, and it does not matter the outcome as long as we both went max out. Naturally, I prefer to blow him to pieces. It is the only way to learn and to hone whatever skills you have. There is no thrill in blasting lesser opponents, and no point in playing to protect your ego. I enjoy brawling with good AI because you can think about what you are doing, what could be done better, and, maybe, learn a trick or two. If you are spending all your time worrying about getting humiliated, you learn nothing. So far, I am extremely impressed by BOS. My only complaints are: (1) I miss the old IL-2 force feedback which really thrashed your wrist, (2) I was a bit puzzled when I dropped two instanteously-fuzed 500-kg-ers from my faithful Pe at about 300m and I heard no BOOOM and I wasn't turned into a fireball (the dust-smoke cloud was very impressive). And that's it for wingeing. Stalingrad is truly appalling: clouds of black smoke, fire, artillery shells exploding, shattered buildings for kilometers. But why wasn't my low-flying Peshka blown to pieces? Did the Germans not employ light FLAK inside the devastation zone?
leitmotiv Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 HAW! Maybe it is my aging Microsoft FF stick. I had a reserve I bought years ago, opened the box, and it did not work. BC, do you know of a repair shop for these things?
Learstang Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I'm in the USA, but I'm sticking to Single Player mode for now. Regards, Jason

Regarding flak in the Leningrad map, when MP was first introduced you couldn't fly for more than a few seconds over the city before the numerous flak guns shot you down. Everyone complained and the flak was toned down. Personally I thought the flak was ok as it felt realistic, except or being targetted on your home airfield prior to take off. Flak is supposed to be deadly, there were a lot of AAA on both sides so it taught respect; the people that want to swoop in unmolested and drop a stick of bombs down a few tank turrets are not doing themselves any favours.
leitmotiv Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Wow. It is really toned down. I was sightseeing over the historical German-held areas in a Pe at about 400m and nobody shot at me, At this altitude even German MG 34s could hit me. My only risk was getting hit by an incoming artillery shell. German and Sov light FLAK was nasty, especially when emplaced around a city. This needs fixing.
Lextor Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I noticed an increase in the number of players on the US Expert server these last few evenings. Good. I fear this is because EUExpert server is down for the last few evenings
PantsPilot Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Unfortunately most US players are not interested in a combat flight sim that: 1. Doesn't feature US airforces. 2. Doesn't have any US planes. Sad but true. This is the main reason why Malta has never been covered and why the Pacific is forever getting rehashed.
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I'm in the US, but not much interest in MP -- I haven't even tried it. I did play IL2 MP a few times, but with ROF whenever I did I was getting TK'd either by someone in my airplane or by teammates. One of my interests is career mode, which I feel like MP lacks.

That seems a little strange, given the numbers of US players that have bought the game, and the number of US players active on the forum, doesn't it?

kendo Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) Regarding flak/AAA on the main Stalingrad map: In the recently deleted set missions there were numerous AA guns placed in the city area. So, any flight over Stalingrad would draw copious amounts of flak. The lethality/accuracy was adjusted by the devs over time but there would always be sufficient to make things 'interesting'. Then the QMB was introduced and the set missions were withdrawn. Unfortunately the QMB seems to have NO (!!!!!!) flak/AAA guns in the Stalingrad area at all??!!! The only location (afaik) on the main Stalingrad map that has AAA is one airfield located center-north of the city - it is the one shown on the map ringed with the AA icons. A flight over this airfield will result in AAA BUT surely it is a crazy situation even allowing for WIP status that there is NO (none, nada, zip!!!) AAA over Stalingrad now? Original_Uwe Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 If BoS had US planes, it would be a even more. Not even that, just a relevant theater in west Europe.
Kleinburger Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Not even that, just a relevant theater in west Europe. Personally I prefer lighting Japanese planes on fire from a single burst to the fuel tanks. Specifically Ki-21's and Ki-27's and preferably in a P-40. But thats just me, although doing to same to 109's and 190's with a "Jug" is almost equally appealing.
Original_Uwe Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Never could get into the Pacific campaings. North Africa, BoB, early air war in France sure, but the Pacific always put me to sleep. Edited May 7, 2014 by forsale
wtornado Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 We will wait for the final product and then jidge if we get it or not no matter what planes, campaigns are in it. I guess I am just an old gamer but I do admit the new ''pay to play'' concept is driving me away from gaming all together. If I get it this will be my last flight sim.

Yeah, I just don't get involved in games like that, either subscription based or where you can only progress through the game by spending money, and your progression is tied to the amount of money you spend. I was skeptical of Rise of Flight's model of buying aircraft as well, but I admit that has worked for me. The developer has incentive to develop new high quality models, and the initial buy in for the new user is low, and they are never really required to buy anything else unless they want to.
