Online plane reference / checklist for the community

I started working on a reference / checklist kind of thing a while back, because at this level of complexity we really need a way to remember the numbers and settings etc. for every plane we may need to hop into. LUPO posted a great PDF version already (http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5557-cem-reference-table-pdf/), but I think it's important to have an online version constantly updated by the community. Mine isn't brilliant and it's missing all the stuff at the moment, but I thought that if I post it in public, someone will either help me work with it by posting the numbers or editing the document - or even better, point me to an already existing and hopefully better document.

LUPO did a great job collecting all the data from the game, but I would like to expand on it a bit and present it in a standard format so that all planes have the same kind of a list so you already know what you're looking for when you're browsing through the tables. So anyone interested in either editing the file or adding the numbers post here or contact me and I'll give you the editing rights or add your numbers in as I S-L-O-W-L-Y work on the thing.

Again, I don't want this to be my thing, we just need to have a community-maintained resource somewhere. I just started a proof-of-concept test version a while back and LUPO's great list finally proved to me that a thing like this can be very useful. If someone already has a better one, please let me know and post here.

Great idea.

It couldn't be open slather for input though as it would be constantly changing with each inputers own ideas.

Or, once a piece of data is verified by a reliable source it would need to be locked so it cannot be amended. Therein lies the largest snag, who is/are the responsible and knowledgable person/persons going to be?

Basically at this stage I'm just interested in getting some kind of process going and some kind of an initial data set to start with. I'm not very worried about the figures not being the absolute best ones (the more controversial ones such as suggested radiator positions for different operations etc. at least) as long as they are in the ballpark. Technically I think I would be the ultimate overlord of everything, since I created the document in Google, but I really think we as a community could create a document like this without too much trouble. Too much. The only problem for me right now is that I'd really like to see a document like this created and I'm probably not the best guy for the job (and I don't really think any single person is).

Fantasic stuff....

.... but I say again....

... this kind of stuff should be in a WIKI :) So it can all be easily found and updated.

Maybe I should make one.

I once created a Wiki for DCG in german lang. It is actually pretty easy and straight forward. An admin creates accounts for users that are interestred to post an article, which will then directly be visible for public.

Even non registered users can post content which then needs to be approved before going public.

So a yes for a WiKi, best at earliest stage as possible.

Maybe it could be linked to a sub domian of il2sturmovik.com like wiki.il2.sturmovik.com

Wiki is fine and I agree we need one too. It is, however, extremely important to have a version designed for printing. You will want to have this info accessible in an easily readable format without alt-tabing etc. Ideally this kind of a document draws its info from a wiki, but is either a separate part of the wiki or a its own thing.

As for editing this document I won't make it completely public, but I will give edit rights to anyone who wants them. And any and all data in "my" document is freely usable for a wiki or any other similar purpose.

Also if you have numbers I could use (see missing entries in the doc) you can just post here and I'll add them at some point.

Thanks, a great idea, particularly in the Wiki format.  I'm sure that there will be plenty of volunteer authors, particularly those that want to see that every detail of their favorite plane(s) is just right, and that as things stabilize and we agree more and more on what is what the amount of work necessary will fall off dramatically.

I agree, making it print friendly is important.

Wikipedia has the function to output in a printer friendly format.

Presumably most Wiki software will have the same kind of function.

I'd see some people opening the wiki page on their tablet/phone too whilst running BoS on their main display.

Yep, that's what I plan to do - until the Oculus Rift gets released in a high-enough resolution, after which I'll have to map a button on my HOTAS to alt-tab to the wiki.

Just thinking ahead to what our future swimming experience will become.

I think I have all of the planes in now, you may notice that a LOT of the data is just placeholders at the moment. I really need to dig the data from somewhere, but since technical problems are keeping my own flying down to a minimum I haven't really followed the discussions very carefully and need help. If you have anything to add, post here or ask for edit rights. Of course I don't really know what kind of data would be useful, I'm very open to ideas to what there should be. Ideally I think the most important reference numbers should fit on one page, but there can be a few extra pages of somewhat useful stuff.
