Prepar3D v5 released April 14th, DX12

So. The cat is out of the bag. Prepar3D v5 will be out shortly with a new rendering engine, based on DX12.

FSElite has an interview with Chris Metel from LM. It integrates trueSKY for weather. It does include the old weather engine as well to remain compatible with older software. It is notable that A2A Simulations supports their products for v4 free of charge for v5 also!

It looks certainly nice. They claim for more efficient use of hardware. (dear Lord, finally!!) Here's Rob Ainscough, CEO/Owner of Sim Horizon, doing a flight in 4K.

Yeah... I love *those* clouds...

Lo and Behold, sloped runways! Finally!

Here's a "compatibility list".

The respective developers seem to be receptive of v5, as FlyTampa for instance mentiones performance increases with v5:

Woo hoo.. 51 FPS!!1!

I guess you have to be one of those "20 FPS target" victims to be amazed, but it's certainly the direction where one would things to go.

In a nutshell, another 200 bucks out of the window to bridge the days until FS2020 hits the (digital) shelves. The fact that previous addons and tools are or are made comatible (mostly free of charge as it looks) is just great.

Very nice! I wonder how it's going to stack up against FS2020.

It looks nice, but in the face of what FS2020 might bring to the table, the idea of buying Prepar3d and then filling up on ORBX products to make it look nice/better seems like a tough sell. FS2020 looks like it will offer better for cheaper.

I agree completely.

My civil flight sim life is on hold until after FS2020...I'm holding off on temptations until then.
