Just purchased & installed IL2 (thanks for the promo!). Sound worked great when I opened IL2 in 2D. When I relaunched into VR I lost all sound. I double checked SteamVR audio settings and nothing has changed. Is there a way to change the audio output devices in IL2?

I don't use the HMD-mounted speakers or the 3.5mm jack on the HMD. I use a USB headset.

Click on the sound icon in your systray, it should pull up all your audio devices and you can select from there.

I did. It matches what is in SteamVR. Just for kicks, I cycled through all of them, restarting IL2 each time, with no luck.

Wow, that is odd. What happens if you set it to default?

I don't have an option "default". Are you referring to Realtek, etc?

You should have, in Device Manager click on your USB Headset and see if you have an option to set as default.

I sort-of figured it out. I use Voicemeeter mixer. After disabling voicemeeter, changing output in Windows & SteamVR to my headphones it now works with VR. I'll have to figure out why IL2 isn't playing nice with Voicemeeter later. But for now, let the set-up & testing begin!

SteamVR does not like Voicemeter, I had encountered a similar difficulty. I went to use APO / Peter's Equalizer instead to boost my way too silent microphone.
