Lusekofte Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 I find myself more and more into SP. less servers running early war. I took a advice from Luke to try JU 88 and in that process I found how to start in runways. I believed they all started in air. now I like something to supplement this career and I find it hard to find a good starting. Anyone have a moscow /stalingrad regiment /staffel to recommend. I really like Lagg,109E7, JU 87, IL 2 and bombers. Mig 3 is also of interest. I found that I do not know shit about career mode, but thought I was. I hated it before but now I see I can adjust everything and ai is actually my buddies.
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 This must be why so many people have such wildly different Career experiences. You do need to spend a few minutes with it to see what the options are I've flown some great campaigns. Yak-1B at Kuban 812 IAP. IL-2, can't remember the squadron, but it was located very close to Moscow and you could see it every time I took off, mixed MiG-3/I-16 squadrons in defense of Moscow, flew a great series of missions with Bf110's at Moscow (again can't remember the squadron) on low level penetration strikes and I had a great time with No. 3 RAF in Bodenplatte. Career isn't perfect but every mission I've flown has been different even when the basic setup has been the same.

Does the Moscow Career have the issues when the enemy planes hunting you down to your airfield? Or is it just and issue with Bodenplatte cereers?

I've seen it happen everywhere but I feel like it happens less here. Maybe it's the aircraft speeds. I don't know.
Danziger Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 I've definitely been chased home by 109s and 110s in Moscow campaign but that was a couple of years ago so it may have changed.
Zeev Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 OK Thank you both, I will test it for myself starting a new Moscow campaign.
Chief_Mouser Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 (edited) Ha! On my Il-2 careers on the Moscow map I very seldom made it home! ? Must try another one soon. Edited April 9, 2020 by 216th_Cat

I was flying about twenty, I think, career missions on the Rhineland map with the FW 190 A8. I was not a single time hunted by the Spits, when I turned back to my base. On Kuban, when flying 109 from Anapa, I was sveral times followed to my base, but flying from the airfield near Taman or on the Crimea, made the russian fighters turn away pretty soon. Try selecting an airfield further away from the frontline. 1
falle96 Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 34th IAP PVO remains a personal favorite regiment of mine, you get a lot of action out there by Rzhev.
theOden Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Planning to start a IL-2 career on Moscow and read somewhere you can fiddle with settings to have more friendly fighters at frontline area that possibly can reduce how often one gets chased all way home, some density or whatnot. Could be useful to experiment with and try a few 5 missions to see if helps before going for the "real" career.

Burdokva Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 (edited) Another vote for Yak squadrons - if you pick up the 812 or 43 IAP you can fly with them through most of the Battles of Stalingrad and Kuban. Having read a lot on the former, it was very interesting to experience it in the sim. Yak-1 s.69, Yak-1b s.127, Yak-7b s. 36 all viable options. Yaks vs 109s is always a great close match with similarly performing planes, even if the 109 has the edge. If you enjoy flying the 109E-7, you can try a SG1 campaign (can't spell the early war name properly), starting from Battle of Moscow all through their re-equipment late around Stalingrad. The Schlacht (sp?) version of the E-7 is a different beast, though - all the armor makes you heavier and slower, and it's not much protection against anything other than flak splinters and rifle rounds. I can't number the times I've had to ditch and loose my iron-man mode pilot due to a round in the engine... Escorts also seem to be rare on Luftwaffe ground attack missions, so if you value the virtual lives of your wingmen, be prepared to be heavily outnumbered by VVS fighters on hard difficulty. Honestly, next time I start one it will be on medium. Great fun but very difficult campaigns, at least for me. Now that I think of it, I am replaying the same campaigns from Il-2 1946! Need to finally learn how to fly and bomb with the Peshka and Ju-88… ? Edited April 9, 2020 by Burdokva

Go on youtube and learn the in snd outs it is no rocket science
Lusekofte Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 Well I started a 109E7 campaign and seem to be stuck in a Stalemate. Two tines started the same mission. We get bounced and the leaders drop the bombs. The other wingman did not drop it so I figured out I keep mine too. After the fight they just circle the homebase. Should one just land ir should I attack the target alone?
Eisenfaustus Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 A single Emil in attacker configuration over soviet territory - I'd follow them home I recommend to start attacker careers as a leader though, as you'd have a little more control over what happens on the mission You even can adjust the flight routes, speed and altitude of the mission in headquaters menu as well as the pilots/planes/loadout in the planning menu
