cardboard_killer Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 "[80 years ago t]he Mikoyan-Gurevich I-200 has its maiden flight. Designed as a high altitude replacement for the biplane I-153 it exhibits high potential but also serious defects and an underpowered engine. Corrections will be time consuming and production of the MiG-1 will not begin until December. About a hundred will be in service by the time of Barbarossa and most will be quickly lost. Lessons learned will be applied to the MiG-3 which will not have the high altitude requirement resulting in a simpler but more rugged aircraft."
