Sublime Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 Anyone tried taking only 4 .50s? Im gonna try next mission see if it helps Also I think linking rpm to throttle may not be the best idea Guys whats the ideal rpm and rpm % for a p47s wasp?
AndytotheD Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 I like to look ink the throttle to the turbocharger, keep the RPM in constant speed mode and advance/regress the RPMs as required. The engine drinks fuel at an astonishing rate (for the amount of fuel it can carry) so I’d also recommend running it at cruise power settings and lean mixture until you’re about to enter a fight, in which case shove everything fully forward and use water injection as appropriate. Additionally, above 27,000 feet, unlink the the turbocharger from the throttle to prevent overspeed. Personally speaking I only take the 8 guns. Getting behind some targets is hard enough for me that I’d like to make sure I kill them.
Blackhawk_FR Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 (edited) Take a look at those videos to get the maximum speed you can have with a P47. Spoiler They both use quite the same parameters. I dont think taking only 4 guns will help (at least it will give you some placebo effect). Taking 6 guns can be a good balance between gaining some weight and keeping a good fire power. WEP gives you a serious and noticeable boost but only for 5min. You will still be a big, slow and heavy target for late war german aircrafts (at low and medium alts). But the Jug has a secret weapon (realistic or not, I dont know, it's not the question): its magic flaps making you able to beat anything in a turn fight. Edited April 2, 2020 by JG300_Faucon 1
CountZero Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 (edited) Best trick for P-47 engine is to not turn it on and leve it in hangar and take Tempest V. But if you realy wont to see how broken it is then: Place supercharger at 100% and dont bather to move it. Outlet cowlings at 0% and dont bather with them. Inlet cowlings at 50% and dont bather to move them. mix at auto , only when using boost go at 100% for better power/speed. In climbs go max rpm. in strait go 2550rpm for max speed below 7000m, abow turn auto rpm off and go up to 2900-3000rpm ( it will burn your wep even faster then 5min) 10% fuel is around 8min of flying on combat and 10min on continuos, so dont take mutch fuel as youll be mostly not flying combat or emergancy as mario cart recharg for its engine is 2x1 fly with open caopy for bette visability , speed penalty is only ~20kmh ( 40kmh on p-51 for example), and close when see enemy But in this game its all about fantasy engine timers so its important to make timers longer so if you wont to extend fantasy engine timers: 48.5 @ 2510rpm lasts... +1.5h then ran out the fuel 52" @ 2700rpm lasts 15m and +3m to engine seizure 52" @ 2510rpm lasts... 35m and +6m to engine seizure 60"+2700+80%mix+boost = 15min 60"+2550+80%mix+boost = 15min 62"+2550+80%mix+boost = 9min And use magic flaps when ever you have to outturn any airplane (exept maybe hs129 or he111 that turn like humingburd) or outclimb enemy at slow speed (exept 109s that hover in air on slow speed and climb with no problem when use max power and their magic flaps). But just leving it in hangar is best you can do for it, use Tempest V or if you realy have to then Spit9 or La5Fns but they are to slow to catch axis prototypes like 1.98K4 or rockettank il-262 Regarding 8 6 or 4 0.50cal, .50 is great in this game compared to previous il-2s, but you stil have to kill enemy in one pass so ~5kmh and few 100kg less is not worth it, you can gain that with use of magic flaps, and 5kmh speed aint gona save you when airplane is so slow compared to enemys he have to fight. Even if you dont plan to use it as fighter, for GA its better to take P-51 as its mutch more durable and its engine is not so easy to destroy when damaged or hit. To bad for BoN they decided to make another P-47 insted more usefule airplanes heck even glider Horsa would be better option then another 47 Edited April 2, 2020 by CountZero 1 1
smink1701 Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 What he said! The flight characteristics for the Thunderbolt are a joke. If you need to add full flaps to turn this turd in a dogfight that necessity proves it. Not historically accurate and not correct for IL2. Some of the leading aces of WW2 flew P47s so I know that they were successful fighters, but not here. 1
