II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) So, I'm going to drop a bit of cash on a monster rig to coincide with the commercial release of BOS. My intention is to get a 780ti video card.My wife, who is usually quite frugal, suggested going with the Titan to future proof the computer. I usually do a new rig every 3-4 years and upgrade components once or twice in between. The question is: is there (will there) be any NEED for a card of this magnitude or is the 780ti plenty as I suspect? Of course everyone wants the Godzilla of vid cards if available.I'm not much of a gear-head and the extra money is a bit of a stretch. The birthday is not far off and also coincides. So, I can justify it, if only in my head. Also, I'm driving a 42" Samsung tv/monitor at 1920x1080.And it looks like they have/will enable SLI and I may be able to postpone the purchase for a while now. My twin 460 cards may now be up to the task. Previously I had to run at reduced resolution on the big screen for good frame rates. Edited April 26, 2014 by A1FltTrn=HerrMurf
SeriousFox Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Go for single 780Ti (or 780 Lightning from MSI). Titan is more suitable for office use not games.. imo 1
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 -snip- If you want future-proofing, the 780ti is that. 780ti > Titan any day of the week.
FuriousMeow Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Yeah, 780Ti. It's single card performance is great. BoS is at Ultra, 2560x1600 with full AA and 16x AF - runs great. As soon as SLI is enabled with BoS I'll report back.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) Thanks guys. She's actually the techie and also the cheapskate in the house. Her comment was from the hip and I just wanted to verify my earlier decision to go with the TI. FM are you running twin 780ti's? After she said the above I looked at possibly twin TI's as well. I think I'm in, however, for a single card for now. Twin TI's might be an upgrade in a year or two. Edited April 26, 2014 by A1FltTrn=HerrMurf
DD_fruitbat Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Hmmm this thread is of much interest to me, just about to pull the trigger on a 30inch 2560 by 1600 monitor, and have been unsure of which way to go, titan or 780ti to run this, clod, assetto corsa and elite dangerous at 2560 by 1600. Very happy if a 780ti is the way to go due to price difference!
FuriousMeow Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Titan's main difference is that it can do 6GB of memory and double precision Floating Point. The second is only useful in lab setting research. It'll likely not see use in games, but you can look it up. A 780Ti is a fully unlocked Titan it's just missing the capability to go to 6GB and the Double Precision Floating Point capability.
otherlank Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 For gaming I'd take a 780ti over a Titan any day. It's basically the same card but $300 cheaper. I ran dual 780s for a bit and I actually returned one because the performance per dollar just wasn't there for me. Just one 780 tears through BoS on maximum settings at a resolution of 3840x1620. While running at 1920x1080, a single 780ti for you wouldn't break a sweat. In my opinion, you're better off just starting with one card and adding a second later at a discounted price if your performance demands require it.
LLv34_Flanker Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 S! Looks like the nVidia GTX Titan Z got delayed. It has dual GK110 GPU and 12Gb memory etc. And a hefty price of 2999USD without taxes. Would not even dare to imagine price in Euro Would never put that much money into a GPU
VR-DriftaholiC Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) It's actually a terrible time to be buying a video card. 800 series are on the horizon and with 4k driving video cards to make big jumps I think buying something a little less will save you in the long run. Maybe pick up a 770 as it will run this game on ultra at 60fps. Edited April 28, 2014 by driftaholic
FuriousMeow Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I'm more interested in Gsync monitors than 4K. 2560x1600 looks amazing, all I need is a Gsync monitor to ensure constant fluid framerate. I can't wait to dump my current monitor for a Gsync that runs 2560x1600 on a ~30"
1PL-Banzai-1Esk Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I am waiting for this baby to come out. http://rog.asus.com/296652014/news/rog-announces-the-pg278q-swift-27-inch-wqhd-g-sync-gaming-monitor/
LLv34_Flanker Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 S! On the edge of buying the AMD 295X2 As BoS is getting SLI and CrossFire support, it would be nice to have one. Or I could just slap in another 290X..decisions decisions
Grey*Ghost Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Hi, i have a Gigabyte Windforce GTX 780TI OC and it works great in BoS. Feels even like there is a bit of headroom left. To me a Sim gives me the greets immersion when i reach a stable 50 FPS in all situations. So if you can, go for a single 780TI..... Best Alex
