The fps is capped by the VR headset refresh rate yes, but with this setting you could perhaps tell the GPU to just render lets say 60 fps and let the power go to a smoother experience.
I tested it yesterday for many hours and my subjective feeling is that without re-projection (all turned off everywhere, Steam VR and WMR) I got a smoother experience without much ghosting. However this might just be placebo effect on my part ?

For doing that test you need an:

  • decent logging tool like FCAT-VR, fpsVR or Steams own,
  • measure the frame times and not by watching the games own FPS digit, I prefer to combine the results in to  an logged graph.
  • Using a proper benchmark that will not overflow any of your hardware components, and repeat this benchmark a couple of times.

Doesn't seem to be working. I just checked and my max frame rate has already been set to 80 FPS in NVCP for IL-2. Maybe it was the default or I changed it some time ago and forgot. But my frame rate was never locked at 80 FPS.

Ah well, then as usual there is no substitute for raw power when using VR ?
