Hello everybody,

In spite of the serious events happening in the world, the time flows and it looks like we adapted to the new work conditions. The work processes are set up and we continue at the usual rate. Since we plan to release important renderer improvements in late Spring, we set the workflow to develop the short and long term tasks simultaneously. We'll tell you about what will be released in Summer a bit later, while today we'll concentrate on the coming update 4.005. =AnPetrovich= and =Jason_Williams= told you about the main feature of this update earlier - reworked, improved and advanced damage model of the airframe - but it is not the only huge change that it will include.

Wow. The new explosive and fragmentation modeling sounds very interesting. I can't wait to test that out. Improved sounds are also interesting. I can't wait to try everything! The Yak is looking great!

Excellent work!

Thank you for your work !?

The blast damage calculations use a more accurate power law depending on the distance to the blast center. The damage inflicted by a blast and its ability to break through an armor sheet now drops as the distance increases faster than before, but became much more powerful at very short distances. It also should be noted that engines, drivetrains, reduction gearboxes, ammo racks and other large pieces of equipment now have their own hard casings modeled where applicable and they can protect them from some damage.

This would mean that for instance an HE round hitting the wing can no longer 'splash' damage onto the engine as easily?

Dang, was hoping the Yak-9 was a bit closer, oh well. Looking forward to the core engine improvements!

Hopefully it means that getting shot in the tail from long ranges won't insta-kill the engine.

Interesting stuff.  Is there any estimate regarding the degree to which the more complex damage calculations will effect PC performance?

Awesome, have been waiting for a damage model revision for ages, 4.005 will definitely bring me back into my cockpit :)

Very exciting stuff! Thanks for yet another awesome update.

Good timing.  Everyone will be climbing the freaking walls by next week so a major new update to the game will be a great distraction for many of us.

BIG S! to all the Team for keeping this going during these difficult times:salute:

This^^^

I hope it won't have hit on game performance, my VR wouldn't like it!

why you guys are still texturing the inside planes at 2k resolution instead 4k?

Fantastic News. And the Yak-9 cockpit looks beautiful. Can´t wait.

Thanks for last week's video and for this week's update. I agree with another poster - the seat in the new yak looks comfy!  :)

Thanks again team.  You really are the best at what you do.  S!

It's multiple textures. 4 x 2k and 2 x 1k. Not simply one 2K texture.

Excellent news, looking forward to the patch, the sim keeps getting better and better.

Based on Jason's video the damage and kills will probably feel very different so please give it a few days before freaking out.

Does the new explosive fragmentation model increase effects against soft-targets (e.g. will rockets retain, or in some cases increase, their ability to generate fragments)?

I'm also very curious about how the new damage model impacts WWI aircraft, and aircraft armed only with small numbers of machine guns (I-16, Mig-3, MC202)... we still haven't received info on that (I'm hoping that the Lewis will be a bit more effective when fired into the underside of a two-seater from below).

P.S. The AP RP-3 round might also be effected by the new time-delayed detonation mechanics... IRL their fuse was such that if they were fired into the water and would arc underwater to produce hits below the waterline... this suggests that they'd be pretty good at trying to penetrate before detonating.

With the Yak 9 and the current La5 series, do we have enough planes (never mind maps) to simulate end of war for Russia?  I know we don't have the La7 or Yak 3.

Good news and  good job

Good news, especially for tankers. Hope it will be more realistic now. And will give tanks better chance against bombs!

So, thanks!

To me this will be the best update in history.
when engine parameters get the same treatment this will be top of the world , not a chance for anything else to top.

New features have not any hit on game performance. IL2 is running very smoothly ?

This update is going to be fantastic!  Can't wait.  Thanks for your continued efforts to make improvements.   Just wondering about the concussion wave of a bomb.  Although bomb fragments might not penetrate tank armor, its concussion wave could definitely affect exposed crew members, even fatally.  Is this already modeled in the game?  If not, is it part of the changes coming?

Dear Jason all these improvements are very much welcome, thanks to all the team that works hard. As you insist in the visual and sound ultimate quality for the game, I have two basic issues for you:

1) I do not understand why don't you fix these plane navigation lights once for all. They really kill the visual ambiance of the game. Their glow is completely disproportionate and sometimes enormous in full daylight.

2) I hope you can fix the problem of the disappearing objects. Example: I see very well a ship from my plane and from very far away, and as I approach it grows in size which is normal and then disappears, vanishes, then reappears again. There is a particular distance where the object disappears. And I can replicate this with a camera, by approaching or receding from the object. It may be an LOD issue but I hope it will be fixed.

It has been stated, on multiple occasions, that this problem is related to the engine design and NOT easily fixable. New rendering might be able to fix this in the future.

No we r stuck in 43 for east, you can do it without La7s, Yak-3s, late war Yak-9s, P-39Qs, Tu-2s ... but its like making 109g6 and 190a5 fight Tempests and P-51s on west but you dont give them G14s K4s A8s D9s 262s and so on.

Second that!

Our squad ranks are growing in the Battle Series.
Thanks for the Cabin Fever sale as well.  Several got their “duff” off the proverbial fence recently.
