il2crashesnfails Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Been flying the stuka more lately I got in some clouds something I dont usually do. Anyways when I went looking for the artificial horizon I couldn't find it or anything that looked like it in other planes did they use something else? anyways here is a vid of some shenanigans I got up to with the ju-87 2
1CGS LukeFF Posted March 22, 2020 1CGS Posted March 22, 2020 The Ju 87 model we have did not have an artificial horizon - just a variometer. 1
Bremspropeller Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I thinks it's pretty safe to assume the Stuka needed VMC to dive-bomb anything, so flying through weather on any extensive scale wasn't really forseen. There were Nachstschlachtgeschwader flying the good ole 87, though. They might have had the mods required in place. 1

However, what if that got stuck in cloud getting to target?

However, what if that got stuck in cloud getting to target? You could fly "partial panel". There was a bad crash just before the war, when a whole squadron of Stukas plunged into the ground during an exercise. Must have been a real confidence-builder, just two weeks before the war... Synopsis: The actual cloud-ceiling was at 100m AGL instead of the reported 900m AGL...
