Hopping back on after about a week I've found my frame rate has dropped so low as to make the game unplayable. It used to run at around 40 FPS in the menu and about 30 in game, now it does about half that. Over the past week I've played Mordhau and Arma at high-ish graphical settings without issue so I doubt its a hardware problem. My computer isn't the best but its worked decently so far.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M

16GB ram

Intel I7 @2.40Ghz

I ran the game at higher settings without 4k textures at a fairly consistent 30fps. Running it at higher or lower settings doesn't seem to make any impact for some reason, it runs about as poorly as it did when I tried VR.

So it was fine a week ago, and now its changed? I don't think there's been any updates to the game in the last couple months, so something else must be going on.

Some questions:

Is the frame rate low but stable, or stuttering randomly? If you turn down the settings, does it get faster, or stay slow?

Any windows or driver updates? Anything new that might be running in the background, chewing up resources? My kid had the Origin starter once running in the background on my computer and it tanked my performance.

Could you check your power settings under Windows? Sometimes after a windows update it resets the power consumption to "balanced", which will throttle your processor and video card to reduce power consumption. Move it to high performance to get the best. Same under your Nvidia settings, change the power regime to maximum performance.

Honestly I think other than the RAM you're running at lower than minimum recommended settings. My rig does not do well on higher settings for Bodenplatte for example, although it can do fine on the earlier modules and maps. But I have a faster processor (i5 7500 @3.4 gHz, boosted to 3.8) and a GTX 1060 (with only 3GB of RAM, sadly, this causes me issues).

You may want to download a program like MSI Afterburner or FRAPS and run that to check your system when running the game - it can show the percentage of each computer resource being used, so you could see if your processor, video card, or RAM is being used at full capacity and bottlenecking you. It can log it for you too so in combination with a timed track you can go over a game session and see where in the flight the most resources are being used.

Also, what do you have for flight controls? I think there have been issues in the past with FFB controllers sometimes causing issues with performance, though I thought that had been fixed.

The game sits a very low, but consistent framerate. I'm below recommended settings but I've been running the game at fairly high graphics since release at a decent framerate so far for a few years. I ran the game with nothing else in the background, closing programs that seemed likely culprits, no dice. I use a TM 16000M Hotas and stick with Saitek pedals. I think you might be on to something with the drivers, they were updated today.

I think your settings and etc might be at fault, or most likely, a GPU driver issue... I'm playing online on our server with 50-58 fps with my graphic settings being on the lowest, and I'm running my resolution at 1152*864 but at least I've got my FPS and can fly, you know what I mean?

-GTS 450

- i5 2500k (not overclocked)
- 8GB (x2 4GB DDR3)

What's interesting is you saying your resolution isn't making a difference... I take it Windows 10? I mean I've seen first had that Win 10 has a tendency to update and occasionally break drivers/configurations, wouldn't be surprised if it's using your internal GPU instead of External (since you're running mobile and I'm throwing an assumption that you're on a laptop from that info).

Something weird is going on then, it sounds like Windows is throttling your processor or GPU. If there was a recent update Maybe try rolling back driver for your graphics card and check your power settings to see if that helps?or as Ghost said check windows is not using onboard graphics rather than your graphics card, that could be a huge difference.

Do you have a good way of checking what graphics card the computer is using? The nvidia control panel I used to use for that seems to have been removed.

The problem is solved, after an update it must have changed the graphics card settings to use the integrated graphics. Had to re-download Nvidia control panel from the windows store, for some reason. Thank you.

HA! I KNEW IT.

I've seen countless friends suffer this issue on their laptops - one of my pals wasn't using is 980 on his laptop for almost 6 months until I told him it's not working.
