Beebop Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) I am making a mission on the Velikie Luki map with the following conditions: Date: December 6th, 1941 Time: 9:55 AM Weather Conditions: Temperature -15C Atmosphere Options - 'Overcast 08" Precipitation - 'Snow' Level - '10' Wind: between 1~5 m/s at various altitudes Wind direction: '90' But when I start the mission everything is right except no snow. According to the manual the level can be set between 0 and 10 if using an Overcast, the higher the Precipitation Level number the heavier the snow. When I set "Snow" as a weather condition in a Quick Mission it's snowing, really hard. What have I missed in this scenario? Actually I'd like just a light snowfall that will swirl with the wind. IckyATLAS Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) I am sure you will get this very precisely modeled snow with different type of snowflakes etc. in the new upcoming Microsoft Simulator where weather is modeled and simulated up to such a level where it has become "real" like in Matrix, if you can run it on a powerful enough computer. A quantum computer is a good beginning ? I know I digress sorry for that. After being in the snow so long with the first BOS opus I must say that I am more into sunny dry and dusty weather. I tested with your settings and got light snow, which was visible in the editor and in the running MP mission. JimTM - Test Snow.zip Note that the precipitation level setting does not appear to have any effect for snow. I always see light snow. Edited March 18, 2020 by JimTM
Beebop Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 ? DOH! I'm an idiot but fortunately even idiots get an epiphany. I use mods and wondered if that could be the culprit. Sure enough it was. I had the Better Clouds v.9.1 Mod installed. When I uninstalled it I got the snow. I'll have to let the author know that. So if you are using that mod and want it to snow, remove it. And I liked those clouds too. Ah well. Thanks for somehow jogging my mind into thinking mode, lol. 1
IckyATLAS Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) I have stopped with the mods after loading my system with them. I admit that they brought nice features, but conflicts appeared and as versions change mods doesn't necessarily be retested validated and check for conflicts against other mods etc.. I think that Jason should use the successful mods as a base to implement them in the original game. I would have loved that he did that for a number of them. Edited March 21, 2020 by IckyATLAS
Gambit21 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 I’ve never bothered with mods - not worth the potential problems. I’ve already had campaign bug reports that I couldn’t solve, then come to find out that the guy is running mods. ?
Beebop Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 Yeah I can dig that. Those "Better Clouds" are such an improvement. rowdy, Liz Lemon and HappyHaddock are doing some amazing things with the environment. Modders can take the time to mess with this because they don't have the same time and financial expectations/restraints the Dev's do. One can't expect such a small group to do as much as we would like. heck, even Ubisoft couldn't keep up with the demands of the original game community. (we never did get that Westland Whirlwind lol). I just heard from HH and it's a known issue but may not be able to be addressed, at least not now. Mod's or not this still is the best looking WWII sim in my opinion with excellent attention to detail and flight model/damage fidelity. And I can mod or not as I choose (thanks for that Dev's). Bottom line, I'm pleased as punch with what I do have.

Thanks for the report.
