frosen Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 I have been away from IL-2 for some time and have upgraded my headset in the meantime (index). Now when I came back I noticed that the chaperone was back but instead of blue it's now at least grey. I don't have this problem in DCS (which is the only other VR game I play). Nevertheless, I have googled on this one but haven't found any tips that actually work. Any idea how to remove this very immersion breaking thing? Thanks!
ziher Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) Google for these lines, you should find detailed description on how to remove it: "collisionBounds" : { "CollisionBoundsColorGammaA" : 0, "CollisionBoundsFadeDistance" : 0 }, Edited March 15, 2020 by ziher
frosen Posted March 15, 2020 Author Posted March 15, 2020 I actually tried that a week ago and then my VR stopped working, the screens turned grey so I'm not super keen to try that again. Have you done it on an Valve Index?
ziher Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) I used it on Vive and Pimax.. just backup steamvr.vrsettings file if something goes wrong and ensure syntax you enter is correct. I think this can be set with OpenVR Advanced Settings too . Edited March 15, 2020 by ziher
SCG_Redcloud111 Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 Frosen. I had the same problem and it took forever to find the right solution. Add the collisionboundscolorgama technique, alone, didn't do it for me. You also need to find the file chaperone_info.vrchap and remove data from within it. This post worked for me: https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/138739-how-to-remove-the-annoying-immersion-breaking-blue-circle/&do=findComment&comment=1541423
VR-DriftaholiC Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 (edited) Alternatively you can set up the whole play area around your rig and turn the chaperone to floor only with distance to 0.10 in settings It will fade the circle away. Only the "standing only" option has the floor forced on. Kinda fun to get up and walk away from your fighter and admire it Edited April 7, 2020 by driftaholic
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 (edited) Open SteamVR, click drop-down menu, select developer, Developer Settings. In there select Large/Gigantic Space -> Quick Calibrate. Boom, chaperone gone. Edited April 8, 2020 by SCG_Fenris_Wolf 1
SCG_Redcloud111 Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Yeah, I had to use the other technique because, for some reason, I had to reset to Gigantic intermittently. I couldn't figure out why it would force me to reset.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 SteamVR updates and inconsistency along the patches. It's generally a good idea to freshly install SteamVR once a month - especially if you are on the BETA channel intermittently ? 1
Madov Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Several times now Fenris I have followed your tips on this forum about how to improve my VR experience and each time it comes up trumps. Thank you for being a community all-round good guy who knows what he's talking about. Cheers! Especially good was the imrovement in clarity that I gained by adding the line on max resolution in the 'streamvr.vrsettings' file. 1
