where do you go in this sim to learn how to use the beacon for navigating back to base in very bad weather ?

See this post. Note that the mission builder has to place the radio beacons, otherwise you have nothing to home into.

hello

read your post , so as German just center the needle and that will take you to nearest base . Is there anything to switch on or is it always functioning ?

The receiver is always on and it is tuned correctly. Meaning you have nothing to do but center the needle.

Although in Multiplayer I have never had to tune in the radio to use the Nav beacon,  I am pretty sure that I had to do it for the P39 (which i rarely fly online).  Set a key for switching radios just in case and give it a try if you cannot get a signal but as others have said,  it does rely on the person who made the map putting beacons in.   i am not aware of any popular MP servers without radio beacons but some of the smaller ones might lack them.  Two more things to consider: 1.  It points to the 'nearest'  beacon not where you took off from.  2. Most of the aircraft want you to turn towards the needle but some want you to turn away from the needle so if you find that your normal method is just making the needle swing further to the side then try the opposite.

Does anyone have any idea where to find the radio beacon/tower in the mission editor?  I have been through each section multiple times and I still can't find it!  Maybe I'm blind...   Found a topic that answered it after using a better search term  ?
