so is it just free for 24 hours or once you install it you can keep it?

It's gonna be a busy weekend! Got myself also Arma II (which is just £1.99 at the moment!) and gonna try the Invasion 1944 mod!

lol yeah, I'm expecting this to engulf their servers for a while ;-)
I wonder whether one can get it now on their library and install it at a later date?

great game to have, especially for free. worth the hard drive space guys!

Let it download overnight and gave it a go this morning. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, as it feels very clunky and dated. The AI seems very poor indeed and I had three crashes to desktop and a complete system freeze within just one hour. The accented English speech samples are horrible. I don't usually play shooters and I'm curious if this is considered to be a good one for it's genre.

Must be. :)

I had AI compatriots running in and out of rooms like kids exploring a new house. Each one shouting their favourite catchphrase as they blundered into an equally blundering enemy. Hopefully there are some mods out there to give a less lunatic single player experience.

Now I remember why I no longer play FPS's. Still, there's no harm in trying something when it's free.

Why do you play singleplayer? It is just the same like the multiplayer, except it has some cutscenes and no players.

Red Orchestra 2 is a online shooter. The only problem is the AI. They kill you, when you are behind them etc. First rule for bots: Kill them before they kill you. Don't let them bleed to death, just shoot till they are lie on the ground.

If you have some good hardware like an 5.1 Headset and a good 5.1 Soundcard, you hear your enemy long before you see them, for example in a House, you can hear them running upstairs and more. A good mouse is very important for better aiming.

I play RO2 with this:

It is sad that there are more updates in RoF as in RO2. I hope you know what I mean ;)

All in one is Red Orchestra a very good game, but it also have some bugs yet.

would you then say that Arma II with the Invasion 1944 mod is better overall?

Well, I got fed up with all the silly bunny hopping & rocket jumping tactics and spawn point camping on most FPS multiplayer games. I can't see the point of that sort of stupidity.

I realize that now. With the AI the way it is it's obvious they paid scant regard to the SP side of things. It's basically an afterthought. Kill them before they kill you? Well spotting them as they magically and invisibly materialize behind you would be a start

That Roccat gear looks very nice indeed. I'm not sure what that war of the worlds tripod thing is all about in your last link but as for the rest, my gear isn't that impressive but it does work - mostly.

I have an old Creative Labs/Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 system hooked up.

I have an old logitech 518 gaming mouse which still works perfectly although undoubtedly there are better ones with a much higher resolution now.

The mouse surface is courtesy of a Steel Series large mouse mat.

And finally I use a really cheap as chips logitech keyboard (after my old one broke) which isn't even a standard size and a complete P.I.T.A. let alone lights up.

I do need a proper keyboard but it's not a priority.

Like I said, no great loss for free. I'll stick with flying I think :salute:

Totally different,if you want fast action R02 is the place to be, arma2 is more of a sim massive maps, both have good realistic weapons, I haven't tried the invasion 44 mod, not sure how many play it online, which is where both games are best, especially if you find a good arma group.

"Rising Storm" Game of the Year Edition (RO2 in the pacific addon) is 75% off at the moment in all offers they have on steam.

Yeah, I think I'll uninstall too.  It appears that the game does not support mods to any great extent, so the gameplay is confined to what you get now.

I spawned half-in/half-out of the ground too.  I was also baffled about a disembodied voice that followed me around, wailing "I can't take it anymore!/We're all going to die/What is happening/I can't go on!" etc.  Meanwhile the AI took it in turns to run up to me and stand directly in front of my crouched figure.  A bit like a cat who plants themselves in the middle of your important business.  The panicky voice continued to broadcast its predictions of woe, so I took a potshot at the AI, thinking this would shut it up.  No effect, friendly fire was apparently not an option.  Getting up and fleeing the voices, I found they continued even though I was alone.  Apparently ones own character makes these doomsday announcements as what is meant to pass as "gritty immersion".

Being a persistent sort of chap I pushed ahead as far as level 3 of the single player campaign.  Campaign is a fairly generous description though, as one is still haunted by a disembodied mock-German voice which follows you around and sets you tutorial goals like, "select your schquad und order zem to advance on zat fence zat conspicuously pulses mitt a glowing red light..."

Forget the campaign and single player, Multiplayer is where everything good is. Stick to that and you'll be good. I've got about 200 hours on RO multiplayer.

Thanks for the heads up on this.  I have really been enjoying the jungle warfare and amphibious landings in Rising Storm.
