JohnBrownStan Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 I played a little bit of the IL-2 1946 back in the day, with its myriad planes and content. I just looked online and saw that the game went from the original IL-2 to IL-2 1946 in a span of 5-6 years. I'm curious why the BoX series takes so much longer to release new planes and content? Is it that there are fewer production resources this time around, or is it that IL-2 content takes a lot more time and energy to create? (Or maybe a mix of both?) I mean this as a genuine question, not as a complaint or an insult to the IL2 development team. The game is wonderful, and I'm happy to get what we have.
=621=Samikatz Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 The planes are enormously higher quality in terms of art quality, flight model accuracy, and systems detail. 1946 cut a lot of corners to get the level of content it has 2 9
Enceladus828 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Making ONE plane (on average) today would be the equivalent of making 4-5 planes on IL-2 1946. 1 1
CountZero Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Also this is probably mutch smaller dev team then il-2 46 had, just go with 18-24months for dlc of 10 airplanes and map + pair of colector ones in same time and bug fixes and game improvments, anything more is asking to mutch. 1

So true. There are planes I seldom if ever flew in Il2-46 that I really enjoy flying in BOX simply because they're so freakin' nice. I never flew the JU-87 in IL2-46, for example, but every time I fly it here I'm blown away but how nice the cockpit is. 2
cardboard_killer Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) I'll say I am getting a little antsy for the new collector planes. I think its going on six months since the announcement. Edited March 10, 2020 by cardboard_killer

I'm antsy for the Typhoon & the Ju-88C myself... and it'll probably be over a year from announcement to their release... but that is the cost of quality I guess! The research alone... let alone the modelling and then the debugging! I'm sure the people who are working full time on this would love to get it done sooner as well. Honestly though, I'd rather they have normal schedules and holidays than I get my trinkets a few weeks earlier!

Because in that time they will have released before the Typhoon: * Yak-9 * Yak 9T * Hurricane II * P-47D-22 * C-47 (AI) * Fw-190 A-6 * Spitfire Mk. XIV And: * Typhoon * P-51 B/C * Bf-109G6 (Late) Before the Ju-88. They aren't going to release your Typhoon before they release my Yak-9. 1
Avimimus Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Yeah... think about that! I'm going to have to be much more patient than you! Of course, the Yak is lovely too! I can't say I'll carry a grudge!
cardboard_killer Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Ah, but I'd be just as happy if they put the Yak-9 at the bottom of the list, while it sucks to be you because you care about particular planes.
=621=Samikatz Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 The key is to just really get into every front and role so nothing can ever disappoint you, duh
