  1. 1. Do you think that the creators of BOS should consider making a modern day general aviation simulator in 5 - 10 years?

    • Yes, it's a good idea

Just thought I'd see what people think. I personally think it would be a fantastic sim with superb graphics and a brilliant flight model. The current modern day flight sims are good but they have their disadvantages. This sim would also have a good damage model and a good multiplayer.

I'd rather see them doing expansions for BoS five years from now :)

There's sooooo much stuff to add to WWII.

I agree with my previous posters and would much rather like to see the devs working on additional aircraft, scearios and possibly features.

I also agree. No modern sims please, personally I find them very boring

There's too many theatres which haven't been done and appear to be welcomed by simmers, North Africa/Med for instance.

I rather see the development team pick one of those than go for boring ir missile territory

No,my passion is WW2 planes and scenarios. However, if they ever decided to do a Korean War sim, they would have my money straight away ! ~S~

They already have to develo / support roF + BoS : so a new sim may be a good indea, but not at the expense of those

The furthest I would like to see them go is Korea.

I find it incredible that no one has done a Mig Alley update.  What's not to love, limited plane set, early jets and the pinicle of WW2 piston engined aviation, Yak 9's, Mustangs, Seafires, carrier ops.  Everything in one small perfectly formed package with the added benefit of being of interest to possibly the biggest expanding market in the world, namely China.

I'm sure 777 will get around to it eventually and I'm sure it will be good (maybe even 64 bit and DirectX 12 by then  ;) ) it's just the having to wait several years for it to happen.

There`s nothing like old school dogfighting. I`d love to see more sims like ROF and IL2BOS.

It`s funny how flightsims had evolve for 25 years to give us this kind of games...I guess modern air warfare was easier to simulate

S!

No. More expansions to BoS and beyond, thank you.

If it is WW2 I'll buy it!

Not keen on jet sims.

IMHO best dogfighting era was WW2.

Firing a missile from 25 km away, meh!

Let other developers handle modern warfare.

I can kinda see the justification for a Korean War sim, but that's as far as I'll go.

Naval aviation over the wide open Pacific, atolls and islands- :hunter::pilot:

So many missions and targets.

- float planes, torpedo bombers, dive bombers, carrier landings, sub chasing, sub pens, taskforce CAP and Recon, convoy cover and interdiction, island defense - oh my!

It could be very entertaining squadron/ carrier group vs squadron/carrier group.

What Nations besides USA, Japan... Australia, New Zealand-

Theres a huge list of planes! work for at least 10 years! WW-2 is much more interesting than a jets!

I too cannot believe there is no next gen Mig Alley sim or more sims devoted to early jet combat.

I would love a Wildcat, Hellcat, and Corsair. I think the Wildcat vs Zero matchup would be very fun and challenging. Of course, I would take up the Wildcat. I would flat scissor that stubby plane all over the simulated Pacific Ocean.

Keep it propheads.

Immense material to make the new IL2 series for decades to come.

The OP actually asked about General Aviation 5 from 10 years from now and I laugh to think that GA will be all about drones at that point, and that joysticks, rudder pedals, OR type vr or whatever will more and more be how RL flying is done.  Having to fly a simulation of that sounds like punishment  or worse yet work  :coffee:

I totally agree that Korea would be a great place to get to AND a great place to stop.  . .but each in it's time, and I don't guess that the prop only folks have much to worry about.

WW1, WW2 or in between I like but jets no, this personal and nothing rational. I like piston engines. Real pilots planes not engineers jets playthings. :P

There are some advantages to jets with high thrust to weight ratios.  You can just run the geometry in your head and plot firing solutions, not so much about raw speed and Stalling, you have the speed, you just need to "out fox" your opponent.

This was expressed by a LtCol friend that retired having spent plenty time with Phantoms in the beginning then F15s.

Of course you have to add weapons systems speak with very recent mounts but with Korea and early Vietnam periods the planes are fairly simple without out the wing drop stall hang on your prop fall from the sky issues- not in vertical scissors etc- got it.

I had a stint in the USMC with a flight contract that was postponed due to the 87 market crash- sucked, but we were online for Harriers and of course that certainly is not a simple craft, part helicopter-part fighter bomber- to master so there is an obvious limit to my "pure and easy" jet hypothesis.

But I'd enjoy carving up the sky in something with more power but shy of the resource management job of modern fighters.

yeah, that wasn't totally clear but it's Saturday night : )

I think that a game with theaters spanning from the Spanish civil war and the Second Sino-Japanese war to the Suez Crisis and Korea would be fine, but I like my guns, and early Vietnam warfare is... a bit dry.  You have American fighters with missile armament only, and Viet Cong MiGs with cannons and missiles, so while it may look good, the dogfighting will be absolute crap.

I think that if Korea or Egypt were added, it would be one of the last things to be added.  IMO it would still be within the capabilities of the devs, and would be quite marketable.  On top of that, it would greatly interest the Il-2 1956 (postwar mod for Il-2 1946) crowd.  The devs could also use a plethora of vehicles from ww2 in it, F4U, P-51, Yaks, Lavochkins 7 and 9, Po-2 (jet killer extraordinaire  ) B-29, A-26, Il-10 Tu-2 (F7F and F8F are sort of ww2 I guess).  The size of Korea is manageable, and the terrain is anything but flat and boring.  You have land based aircraft, carrier aircraft, marine operations, etc.  But the best thing is that the combat hasnèt lost the most important aspect: dogfights!

I agree,

the core of this community is ww II and prop sims.

Obviously, combat flight simming is not just WWII, but entering into jets we are talking of a totally different argument and in products really far from this one. Better topic in a Falcon 4 forum .......

Imaginem um novo SIM com máquinas atuais e os gráficos e jogabilidade do BOS... Seria ótimo, mas sempre atualizando o BOS.

Modern cfs is a whole other ball game, and it is adequate covered by DCS and some other brands. I rather see more ground objects  improved DM and more maps and planes in the tempered this sim operate or later. By all means earlier also. But not further.

It is a bad idea unless they actually listen to their customers

I don't think many will trust them again after BOS
